Omegan Medical Service Ends Gang War, Kills (Almost) Everyone

A gang fight between a couple of street crews out in Kima District went crazy today. The Maxi Street Knifehands and the Marpa Lane Moxiekillers both decided today would be a good day to finish each-other off, and, as it turns out, the leaders of both gangs had a contract with the freelance medical company FEMES. If you don’t know FEMES, then let me say this: Fuckers with gunships that do medevac-for-hire, complete with heavy weapon coverage if you get fucked up in a street fight.

Anyways, two gangs go at it, the leaders happen to have FEMES contracts that cover high-threat response. Both gang bosses happen to get shot, so FEMES sends out the HTR medevac teams. They see the whole shootout and decide to just fucking wipe the whole place clean, leveling two apartment buildings and an empty, condemned diner that some of the fighters were using as cover.

Both gang bosses got out OK, but everyone else was killed pretty fuckin’ quick. I decided to call up the head of FEMES for an interview, and the first question I had to ask was regarding a conflict of interests in carrying out two mutually-opposed HTR contracts. His only response was:

“There is no conflict. This suits our interests perfectly. Next question.”

What? They were pretty much cleaned out anyways. Gang fight starts up, standard procedure for most Omegans living in the 'slums' is to book it.

Besides, they were in the way.

And everyone wonders why I have an objection with paying someone to fight.

If their cause isn't your cause, you get jive like this way too often.

We weren't paid to fight, we were paid to extract wounded patients. This was the most expedient way to get to those patients within the terms of the contracts they signed. Both patients wanted HTR coverage, so they got it. I'm not really seeing the problem here.

I swear medical services are meant to help people not to die.

I'm pretty sure this violates that whole "Do no harm" part of the Hippocratic Oath.

However much they may like everyone to believe otherwise, the Big Three haven't sliced up the entire station between them. There's always a thousand other competing interests in that pisshole, all fighting over their own turf.

They're still not happy with any rising powers. They like to cut down anyone coming up before they get too fuckin' strong.

+50 for quickly, effectively and memorably dealing with the immediate situation as it developed.

-25 for failing to adequately capitalize on the Public Relations opportunity.

-150 for establishing a precedent you are now obligated to fulfill and which may ultimately prove damaging in the long run as potential customers become wary of extreme measures the company is willing to employ, third parties become decidedly miffed at the resulting collateral, and you set yourself up for an escalation that you may be unable to match.

Truth in writing. Though it does bear mention that the evacuation, occupation, and subsequent liberation of Omega has been somewhat conducive to the creation of smaller groups.

Well that and just not being an idiot. I find the respective Big Three garrisons tend not to particularly care so long as the fighting is restricted to "lesser" factions and/or they get the odd kickback.

Somebody's never been around CSAR guys before. Besides, these are probably combat medics anyway, not docs. They're just trained for the stabilization stuff.

Wow, hate to say it but we could have used them on Tayseri during that tides damned Bliss festival. Send them in to 'stabilise' cases of MVD, that shit would have been priceless.
