As we've mentioned before, the site will be transitioning from the current Valiant system to phpBB3. The mod team has been hard at work trying to make the new forum as cozy as possible for you, and while there's still work to be done, we will be opening the new site soon.

How soon? April 1st.

For those of you wondering, the new forum is located at http://www.cerberusdailynews.com/cdn. You can have a quick peek, but registration is currently limited to admin approval only. We will be opening registration proper on April 1st. I can't guarantee a time when registration will go live, but I will make an announcement in this thread. Probably around 6pm CST.

So where does the forum stand in terms of completeness?
  • All that glorious vanilla phpBB3 functionality is there
  • A new theme. More will come, but it will take some work, since phpBB3 mods and themes do not play well together.
  • Automatic image resize will save your screen width!
  • There will not be a dice-rolling mechanic. There is no up-to-date dice rolling mod for phpBB3.
  • No quick user change. Sorry, I'll miss it too.
  • The reputation system is installed, but still needs to get up and operational. It's being a PITA, and its author is an asshole.
  • ME-themed smilies still have to be installed.
  • You will have a bigger PM inbox (significantly bigger)!

There will be an IC explanation as to why the forum is changing (again), and we'll announce it closer to April 1. If you want to port your current RP over to the new board please let us know, and we'll see what we can do. The deadline for a request is Friday, March 28th, and if you make a request we will not add new posts as they come. IC threads will not be ported over.

We will answer any questions you might have about the new forum here.

Thank you.

I wish to have my long-running thread from last year's October, Enemy of the People ported over, and I imagine waveshavebroken would also have The Jelly Man Can moved over to the new boards.

Just want to say once again that the codex sub-forum is a sublime idea that will save me many headaches in the future. So special thanks to the people(s) that had to go through all of that stuff

I've got two running RPs at the moment - Putting It All On The Line and An Officer and a Gentleman. If they can be ported over that'd be great. However if porting threads is a ton of work, the more significant ones ought to have priority - I don't think it'd be terribly disruptive (or that my RP partners on those two would mind) just starting a new thread with a link back to the Valiant one at the top of the first post, so it's not a big deal.

One question while I'm here though - I imagine adding/amending the codex will be strictly a 'Put your case to a moderator' affair, has it been decided who to talk to about that?

(To clarify, I don't want to suggest big changes - I think the wiki's perfectly adequate for our egrh-that-word-again 'fanon' (and we got our link at the top page, thanks) - I've just always felt the '1% of asari are on the AY spectrum' bit doesn't hold up to scrutiny mathematically, and since this is our codex it's a chance to alter it to something more plausible. I won't go into the reasoning here, just wondering who's the poor sod who's going to get the long PM explaining my thoughts on it.)

Making changes to the codex will be done on a case-by-case basis, in order to fit the entries into the current timeline/history. We will not be making retroactive changes.

As far as the Planet Catalog is concerned...

First, let me just take the time to profusely thank everyone who worked on the Codex. The degree of help it should provide me is literally indescribable here; "Protheans: The Thessian Beacon" alone is critical for two separate character concepts.

That said, I have a few questions:

* When will the current forums be locked? The same time registration for the new ones starts?
* Is there anything specific we need to know about how the registration process works?
* Is there a PM feature on the new forums? I've been assuming one was going to be created, but I can't remember seeing this actually said. Oops, didn't read.

Edit: I also saw this in the new rules list:

Geth, yahg, and rachni are allowed under restrictions; check the Geth Characters subsection to learn how to create one.

Is this an error? I remember recently reading a mod post here that explicitly stated rachni were not allowed as characters because they're all functionally the same being.

For all the facile explanations we offer, the truth remains.

Yes.

Teilhard wrote:* Is there anything specific we need to know about how the registration process works?

Not particularly, except you'll need to register an account for each character instead of using a single umbrella account. That and there's a captcha or two to keep spambots from getting in.

Most emphatically yes.

We are still hammering out the details on "special" character races. Give us a little time to work out those details (at least until April 1st, anyway).

Yahg and Rachni? That'll be interesting, to say the least.

WavesHaveBroken This one is unsure what to place here. Greetings!
So far, it looks great. :)

I'm enjoying the short updates on the planet summaries, particularly Irune's (nice plot point for any volus players) and those at Tikkun (fleshing out exactly what the joint quarian-geth presence looks like). Nice work.

I've already said it once before, but Spiz and Steel have worked incredibly hard on those edits, and all credit is due to them for that.

As Causality said, we're trying to figure out how we will approach these characters. But we expect good things from our members (otherwise we wouldn't open them up in the first place)!

Brilliant. I'll be rejoining for the move, and I'll try to advertize in places where I mod post-april 1.

Will we need to use separate e-mails for each character account we create (ie do we log in via e-mail + pass or username + pass)? I know free email accounts aren't hard to make and one account per email might be a groundwork feature of the type of board CDN is moving to, but I'm just wondering.

Nope! You can use the same e-mail for multiple accounts.

Also, it's Username/Password to log in.

Just been having another look at this. Are the dates going to be changed to be in line with those on valiant, ie 2189 instead of 2014?

Good catch! I'll look into that, and change it if I can.

As a head's up, I'm going to make the registration system open at around 18:00-18:30 CST tomorrow, which is about when I expect to be home from work. Those of you who decided to try registering your accounts while we're still in admin-approval mode will be activated around then.

Cool :)

Should be right around the time I get home too :)

Perfect timing. Should be about noon where I am... 18 hours later.

EDIT - I might have registered a bit early. By about 20 mins, at the most.
