Neo-Cerberus Group Unearthed
João-Paulo Bernandes, Alliance News Network Officials on Eden Prime are reporting that elements of a new humanity-centric “Neo-Cerberus” has been detained, following a tip off by an undercover informant embedded by Alliance Intelligence Services. The group was arrested in a series of raids conducted by Alliance Marines working in coordination with elite military personnel. Twelve members of the group are currently detained and have been indicted for conspiracy to commit treason; another fourteen have been detained for psychological treatment. However, anonymous sources claim that at least three members of the group are still at large on Eden Prime, including Thulani Maesgo, the leader of the cell. Maesgo is rumored to have been a high-ranking member of Cerberus at one time, and whose criminal record has been sealed by the Alliance. Director General Miskatovich stated that the rest of the group would be found “as quick as possible” and that the raids would “serve as an example for all those who attempt to restart Cerberus.” Presslink News Aggregator: Collecting headlines from across the galaxy. After everything Cerberus had done during the war, you'd think no one with an ounce of sense would try to emulate its legacy.

Would you believe that there are at least sixteen different post-Cerberus terrorist cells all calling themselves Neo-Cerberus?

Morons.
Though I'm not surprised. Idiots will forever exist, to the detriment of the human species. RememberTheBlitz wrote:Maesgo was always an incompetent moron. If he can't even keep a single Cell hidden from the Agency, he deserves what he gets.

Son_of_Orion, much of the current neo-insurrectionist movements that call themselves or fashion themselves after Cerberus are little more than militias. As a previous poster stated, there are SEVERAL Neo-Cerberus groups, of varying competence and range. With the current post-war climate, the possibility of a group rivaling the previous organization's spread while having the carbon-copy of the same ideals is minute and highly unlikely- Especially when the heat's on them. There will always be people who are lured in by the ideals of the organization, that's an unfortunate fact of life. Second Lieutenant Sarah Thompson, Systems Alliance. Join the reconstruction! Extranet searches for humanity-oriented terrorist cells bearing the moniker “Hestia” yield two results. Current sample size of materials provided yield a considerable margin of error when modeling the veracity of either organization. Extranet searches for humanity-oriented terrorist cells bearing the moniker “Dionysus” yields 4,141 results. 92% of these use language of a generally satirical manner, analogous to "tabloid journalism." |

If they're neo-Cerberus in the sense that they're actually seeking to speciesist than they likely would have just been given a show trial here and than publicly executed, if they're neo-Cerberus in the sense that they're slapping those stupid looking sigils all over their equipment than that's just dumb, They're idiots either way.

I think it's kind of obvious that he's not very smart if the best name he can come up with was "Neo-Cerberus". Never mind getting caught, although I'm glad he did. |

I'm think that was the name the press gave it? Anyone stupid enough to go with a name like that wouldn't have been able to get out in the first place. |

I guess if there are going to be Cerberus throwbacks trying to kick things off again, better they be dumb than smart?Although something I've been wondering about, and I may as well ask in light of what you said - was this guy 'high-ranking', or what? I remember hearing off some news report somewhere that by the end practically everyone in Cerberus had been implanted with husk tech and whatnot to make them... I don't know, loyal to the Reapers or whatever they were doing (certainly all the extras down at the studio we've got as Cerbies have to go through makeup every morning to get their 'husk faces' on, but maybe that's just that 'rule of cool' thing Genma keeps saying whenever anyone asks her if a particular plot point actually happened). So did this guy quit on his own before any of that, or was he not important enough to huskify? (Was he high-ranking only insofar as he was, like, the Illusive Man's personal shoe-shiner, or something?) hierarchy_dad wrote:After all their kin has done, giving them the chance to stand trial is too kind.
Oh I don't know, I think that's exactly what they deserve. I'm not saying I'd approve of a big publicity show trial or anything like that, but why not put them through the justice system same as anyone else? That'd be quite an elegant demonstration that they're not 'special', just common criminals.Son_of_Orion wrote:And here I was hoping that these people would actually understand that cooperation with extraterrestrials is what won us the damn war.
There's always going to be someone - I don't want to sound overly prideful (by implication at least) of my own species, but if we can generate violent isolationist groups (and we have, just look up 'Melliera's Daughters'), anyone can.On a brighter note, good to see you around again, I noticed you pop back up in the geth thread but it slipped my mind when I was writing in it later. ![]() |

(Was he high-ranking only insofar as he was, like, the Illusive Man's personal shoe-shiner, or something?) The last time I saw Maesgo (assuming it's the same one), he wasn't particularly highly placed, though that may have changed in the intervening years. He could have bailed early, like several other operatives, or he may have been in a job that wouldn't have benefited from implantation. While it's widely assumed that Cerberus consisted entirely of grunts, spooks, and mad scientists, the organization had a lot of support personnel (lawyers, accountants, brokers, doctors, etc.); many of them never received the reaper tech implants, as they were not particularly beneficial to their line of work. |

Rather strange it's on Eden Prime of all places. Thought flying cerbie colors there was just another way of saying, "please kill me." The locals already gave them a mauling, I doubt ex-cerberus would get better treatment.

It could be the result of lingering resentment against the geth and how the Alliance relies on geth support for some of their reconstruction efforts, it's stupid, but it's understandable stupidity given Eden Prime's history. |

Is twelve members big or small for a Cerberus cell? If it's small, then yes. |

Nah, I live on Eden Prime, and let me tell you, the thrashing they gave the Cerbies is a symbol of colonial pride. They're damn proud of it (and should be, I would say, if some didn't use to advocate separatism/tell me how to do my job). They might not like the geth, but any patriotic Primean euthusiatically hates the Cerbies too. So yeah, it's a bit strange they were here but maybe they thought it'd be the one place no one would look for them. Only logic I can see. But Cerberus. First Sergeant Natalie King, 2/4th Marines |
