Geth Go Construction Crazy
Vesnic Veghae, Eye on the Veil Blog If the geth have been known for one thing after their 300-year isolation, it is their insatiable need to build. From the construction of their fleet and stellar-scale superstructures to their invaluable help in rebuilding the galaxy after the war, the image of geth as haywire robots hell-bent on destruction has quickly been replaced with one of the “construction bot.” The offer the geth collective has made to the other galactic civilizations, should, in this context, not have been a surprise. Yet one cannot help but wonder if the geth have become “construction crazy,” for early this morning the geth collective offered to create over 50 megastructures near (and often in) densely-populated systems. "The proposals they came up with are just insane," one anonymous source said, "They propose to build gigantic topopolis' in the capital systems. One of those is big enough to offer room for over fifty trillion individuals, and they want to build ten of those things. Then there are the Matrioshka brains, Issa Filaments, Dyson constructs and the Goddess only knows what else." The earliest concern over where construction material would come from (some feared it would come from the homeworlds themselves) was alleviated as the geth offered a list of uninhabited systems where needed material could be found. Another issue that raised brows was the aggressive timetable; according to geth planners, all fifty structures could be built in less than a thousand years. There is a 'cost,' however, that some detractors find unpalatable. "These robots want to go in our star systems and build things that might cause our homeworlds harm, by for example destabilizing their orbits... but that's not the biggest issue,” stated one agitated salarian. "Did you look at the plans? Many of these constructions might have room for organics, but there is a lot more room reserved for geth servers. The largest one [a dual-intertwined topopolis in the vicinity of Trebia, tentatively called 'Duty' and 'Honor' will have a computer substrate below the surface that is well over 500 meters thick, and would be a home for innumerable geth programs." There has been no official response to the offer as of publication. Presslink News Aggregator: Collecting headlines from across the galaxy. ((Official administration news feed. Wow, this is a bit extreme, right? Four trillion? Destabilizing orbits?
At least the geth ask upfront, you know. I sure as hell wouldn't want a construction just to show up in a system without prior consultation. I think, the galactic community should find a common stance on this matter, otherwise we will see a radical change in the layout of most colonized systems within just one asari lifetime. I am not sure I prefer their architecture over our traditional one. What do you others think? |

Other than that you need to reread the article since it says fifty trillion and not destabilizing orbits instead of four trillion and destabilizing orbits I believe we should really ask if there is a reason why it needs to be this big... I am all for orbitals but really these constructions are mind-boggling in size. It's been great that the Geth have been doing so much building. I mean, we'd be in worse shape than we are now if it wasn't for them. Especially the Citadel and Sol systems. But there's "keeping busy" and "going crazy", and creating a project for fifty trillion people to live in seems like it's more of the second one. Are there even that many people in the galaxy? There definitely aren't five hundred trillion, that's for sure.
I guess the question we'd have to ask, then, is if they weren't busy building things, what would the Geth do? |

Why fifty trillion? I can't just toss out some number, but a floating space city bigger than a planet seems just a little excessive. |

This one is in awe! If the Servants of the People were to dedicate their efforts to the pursuit of philosophy - and this one sees no reason why they should not do so, given their history of introspection and self-enkindlement - they might be capable of insights these ones could scarcely imagine!
This one proposes that the imaginative capacity of the Servants will provoke extensive shifts in the ideological tides of the modern galaxy! Well, I'd say the require size is dependent on the people who will actually live in such structures. Why build for trillions if a few hundred thousands only want to live there? I'm very surprised it's not obvious to the Geth. Slaves4Us is here to help you! Contact us with your need, and we will fulfill them in no time! What about rebuilding all the planetary cities and installations first before branching out into space cities for the tribillionizens?
Billions have just died, and we organics don't multiply with copy/paste, so some systems can hardly populate their cities anymore as it is. I'd say the offer is "at least something" but a bit misdirected. A lot of systems could need help for sure but certainly not with the construction of such fantastic structures while the planets still lay in ruins. Did you find that on the extranet? there may be misleading information out there regarding organics and their alleged obsession with "size". |

Perhaps it is in the geth's best interest to formulate several designs of varying sizes for artificial habitats and propose them rather than focusing on megastructures?
