I hadn't actually seen this until just now; seems pretty good.

First 9 minutes of Mass Effect: Paragon Lost

The greatest victory is not the defeat of an enemy,
or the eradication of a threat,
but the simple acceptance that everything changes,
and there is nothing you can do to stop that.

Japan has several Pokemon leagues. So isn't it a logical conclusion that North America and Europe would have leagues as well?

Note: the Europe one is no longer being worked on, unfortunately.

The original pitch that put The Muppet Show on the air.

There's only a handful of you that are probably old enough to remember the original Muppet Show (and not the bizarre and hit-or-miss one with the weird Rastafarian muppet), but it was a marvel of television. For example.

We might be getting closer to FTL drives as we speak.

Of course if this works out, the Fermi Paradox becomes even more vexing. If we can get a warp drive practically working that can travel light years in mere weeks, then why in 14 billion years of existence has the universe not produced an intelligent species that's basically colonized, well, everything?

Maybe we should be watching our backs for Reapers.

I now Gangnam parodies are a dime-a-dozen and really the whole thing is way past its sell-by-date but this one is really well done and worth a watch.

A lot of reviewers have been bashing the Hobbit. If you go into it thinking you're getting the Lord of the Rings: Part II, then yes, you'll be disappointed. If remember that the Hobbit was a children's bedside story and acknowledge that the film is striving to keep a similar tone, then the movie is quite enjoyable.

Personally, I thought that the Hobbit gave the same sense of wonder and awe you got when you watched the trilogy without being a copy-paste (or that might have just been me).

Either way, I would strongly recommend seeing it.

My big worry about the Hobbit always was that they were going to try to make it into LOTR 2.0. So that's actually pretty reassuring to hear.

Did you guys see it in that 48 frames 3D? I heard it kills the immersion and should be avoided.
Also I think that would have warranted its own thread.

Shot Through A Relay
Saw the 24FPS, 2D version last night and was totally blown away. This might sound a little like heresy, and without overdosing on DVD viewings, maybe a little early to say for definite, but I think I actually prefer An Unexpected Journey to any one part of LOTR. Seriously, I thought it was that good. Got the balance between being its own film, its own story and paying homage to the LOTR films just about spot on.

I don't remember the last time I spent a continuous three hours being so entertained. Everything from the music to the visuals to the dialogue and references to the source were, in a word, awesome.

Go see it. Go see it now.

Just got back from seeing it. My brother, who saw it just in 3D, said 48 FPS made it so much better. As someone seeing it for the first time: it was weird. But it didn't break immersion, it was just because I'm not used to seeing something so smooth on a screen that big. If anything, it made the immersion greater - the fight with trolls was incredibly good and my god, Gollum.
