Journalist’s book accuses Alliance of “turning a blind eye” to Cerberus.

Jelik Moraw, Kithoi Tribune

Freelance journalist Andrew Frye has created a storm of controversy around his recently published “See No Evil, Speak No Evil: The Alliance’s Failure”, which accuses the Alliance of neglecting to take effective action against the Cerberus organization in the years prior to the Reaper invasion.

Frye in his book made note of the numerous shell corporations as well as wealthy Cerberus sympathizers within the Alliance military-industrial that helped provide funding and resources to the organization, as stated in this excerpt “Companies such as Cord-Hislop Aerospace, CDR Holdings, Haribon Military Industries and other fronts, many that were formed shortly after the Cerberus manifesto was published, had been able to transfer vast amounts of resources for years. But only after the war started, did the Alliance began to properly investigate their ties to the organization”. Frye also went on to accuse the Alliance of dismissing the pre-war reports that were published by both the STG and Spectre intelligence regarding Cerberus’ increase in military strength prior to its invasion and occupation of Omega.

Since the book’s release, Alliance officials have derided Curtis’ book as “Sensationalist and groundless journalism”. Spoke Adjutant Elizabeth Curtis “The Alliance was engaged in numerous counter-terror operations aimed at curbing Cerberus’ influence well before the invasion. To say that we dismissed the threat Cerberus presented is a complete falsehood, and it should make anyone question Mr. Frye’s credibility as a journalist.”

Despite the outcry by the Alliance, or perhaps because of it, Frye’s book has appeared on several #1 bestseller lists alongside other books riding off the backlash against the Alliance for its pre and post-war policy decisions.

It is my belief it was less a case of "turning a blind eye" and more one of a faulty evaluation of the risk they posed resulting in a lack of resources being allocated in fighting them.

Palmer Why are you reading over here?
I think I'll stick this book next to the "STG is taking over everything" section of my library.

I was wondering why Igor Svord's dissertation on Reaper pathfinding had such a fixation on cheese metaphors.

Don't really think I'll waste my time on this one except for the sake of bad comedy.

People seem to forget, before the Collector attacks, Cerberus put a lot of effort into staying out of the limelight. When human colonies started vanishing, it is kind of understandable that the Alliance would focus their attention on that rather than a little known terrorist group with a track record of failure.

By the time of the Omega offensive, the Alliance was dealing with a possible war with the Batarians. I'm pretty sure we could have declared ourselves God Kings of the Terminus and the Alliance wouldn't have batted an eye in our direction.

Still, I am curious about some of this journalist's evidence, especially where he got it from. Alliance intel is still tight lipped on former Cerberus assets, and the Phoenix Group is notoriously silent about their past affiliations. Perhaps I will pick a copy up after all.

Yyyyyyeeeeeeaaaaaah no.

I know the Alliance gets a lot of shit but we're not like, Saturday morning cartoon villain levels of incompetent.

'An I'd just like to remind you that Cerberus got steamrolled in a single battle once there was actually a place to bring the hammer down.

Forgive my rampant abuse of exaggeration, I'm sure the Alliance was keeping a wary eye towards Omega when Cerberus staged the big coup d'etat, my point is the Alliance had higher priorities than what the Hellhounds were up to (besides, it was Omega, I'm sure Alliance Brass was confident the gangs would sort out the upstart human supremacists eventually)

You do bring up a good point though, for all their support, Cerberus was not the shadow empire many people think. In spite of the number of glowies they could throw at an opponent, they lacked staying power for a stand up fight. Omega and the Citadel were clear demonstrations on just how badly matched they were for that type of warfare. They should have stuck to guerrilla warfare.

Soooo that whole two front war thing with Cerberus basing themselves out of the Terminus was just in everyone's imaginations then? Mean that would be great. Sure there are a lot of marines who would love to hear that the deadheads weren't really that high of a priority really.

Er...they did actually take an hold Omega for a good chunk of the war and they probably would have, you know, massacred the Council during the Coup if she hadn't stepped up. My point was more that they weren't "God-King's of the Terminus".
