Independent Group Calls For Preservation of Rightful Line

“Sovereignty for the British Islanders” was the rallying cry for salarian/human interest group United MotherHood, which today announced its intention to support Dame Elizabeth Frances Grey of Shanxi in her mission to have the human SATAE recognise her claim to the throne of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

A nation based on Earth’s British Isles and now, like all nations of the planet, legally defunct, the Kingdom made recent headlines with the announcement that by long-established tradition, Dame Grey was now the rightful heir to its traditional monarchy. United MotherHood, heretofore unaffiliated with Dame Grey or with the official leadership of the Salarian Union, offered a statement of support, with Spokeswoman Falassai Linsorrl explaining that “it is precisely in times of upheaval and loss that the structure of traditional culture must be respected. We urge SATAE to consider its responsibilities to upholding their historic lineages in the face of so much destruction”.

This terrible mess with the line of heritage sounds overly complicated in comparison to the Matriarchal system. Anyway, having complex rites and seemingly absurd rules of succession. The people affected by this should find a mean to find a democratic solution for this probably. That's interesting to follow anyway.

We had a democracy too. We just had a sovereign as well. Because we chose to keep said sovereign when everyone else was chopping the heads off of theirs (we only chopped the head off of one king, thank you very much).

It's not that hard to understand.

I understood it perfectly. There's only the twist to an outsider that a sovereign has a social meta meaning, being an entity that usually stands above everyday politics and is an integral figure for a society. It is a stabilizing factor by all means. It seems your people want to have that again and that's a wish to be respected.

@Steel_Unifier : Can we just ignore each other's posts and general existence? I'd really, really like that.

I think the Alliance doesn't want to consider her case yet because even she's a leader, even if it's mostly ceremonial. So if they let her come back now, every other country will ask their own representatives back, before the 5 years plan end.
Now what I'd be curious about is to know if the British people really want that very expensive placeholder back. I'd like to see it put to a popular vote.
But it's their decision to make, after the plan end (if everything's going like the SA said it would), they'll be the one to decide one way or the other.

Funny how many blues frogs and mandys seem to know so much about a little island on the human homeworld. Clearly you all understand the situation so much better than us as lived there so please keep telling us what we're doing wrong and how much like things on your planet it is.

Hanging on every word here.

As far as it has a point.

All apologies but I'd just like the point out the irony inherent in that statement. Have you considered simply ignoring Ms. Caran if she distresses you so? As in, say you will ignore her and then actually ignore her?

I think the Alliance doesn't want to consider her case yet because even she's a leader, even if it's mostly ceremonial. So if they let her come back now, every other country will ask their own representatives back, before the 5 years plan end.

...I sincerely doubt that the formal acknowledgement of a glorified extranet celebrity's cultural rights will establish much in the way of precedent for the installment of other leaders in similar nonessential positions.

The answer is probably a great deal simpler and can be expressed in the somewhat cruder terms of: the Alliance doesn't want to touch this particular clusterfuck with a ten foot pole. Probably hoping to defer the issue until it's no longer their problem.

Now what I'd be curious about is to know if the British people really want that very expensive placeholder back. I'd like to see it put to a popular vote.

The institution (at least from my own limited non-native perspective) is as much an integral part of British culture as say, other national landmarks in other regions like the Sydney Opera House or Liberty Enlightening the World. And in the aftermath of the War there are precious few of such things left.

To refer to it as purely a placeholder without at least a cursory acknowledgment of the institution's relative importance appears unnecessarily...dismissive. Contemptuous even.

But it's their decision to make

Frankly, I find this to be the most factually accurate thing you've said thus far. They will decide for themselves irregardless of well meaning but ultimately misguided external pressures.

Aw, am I making the extranet too unpleasant for you?

And it's kind of funny that you're demanding this after you've insisted on baiting me multiple timess, then got your Big Friend On The Extranet to use a word he didn't understand to try and insult me because it sounded impressive when I decided not to acknowledge the unending torrent of crap jetting from your mouth.

I like how you're furiously making a stand on something that hasn't even happened in this thread. Who're you talking to? What are they saying? Are you giving them what for? Do you feel well?

Do let me know if six years of casual to intense research with salarian schooling on human history and cultures isn't enough to obtain at least a basic understanding of important current cultural norms. ;] (Prior to the Reaper War, anyway; I make no claims as to know what that's doing for culture)

There are several hundred different human cultures on Earth. Unless you specialised in this particular culture, then even six years of generalised salarian education on human culture is not enough to obtain a basic understanding of the slightly complex relationship the English royalty have with their people, and vice versa.

May you never forget what is worth remembering, nor ever remember what is best forgotten.

It is safe to say the position of the British/English monarch is important even if it doesn't have official power though, yes? That much one should be able to pick up on knowing both that A) the monarchy is a very old institution, and B) said institution survives even though the nation in question is not considered a monarchy.
