military/mercenary careers

Trex, I barely care that you have 48 kills to your name. It's an accomplishment, but you are not the most frightening person I know (and no it's not your sister or father so don't get competitive).

That gets to the problem I had with mercenary (or even government sponsored assassination) work. The people around you are untrustworthy killers, they lie to you all day long, and you're not hired for your soul, you're hired to be the obedient body. And no, the history of Blue Suns management is not peaceful and professional.

And trust me, being able to get a squad organized and working in unison is a greatly unappreciated skill.

To find out if you can stand the hierarchy, you should live at Harrad's centre for a month or two. Ask him to ride you pretty hard. I wish we drell had something like the hiearchy, instead of the fucking Primacy compact system, but like everyone points out, it's a lengthy commitment, and it will permanently mark your record if you have to duck out of it.

The mark on my record from abandoning a compact? Horrible. Marks me as all but unemployable in many, many fields, not eligible for many primacy social services. Impedes travel. Not removable by all my effort this far. Avoid a black mark like that at all costs.

But, Harrads! Either you'll take to the discipline and the broader training or you'll want to murder everyone, and either way it's useful knowledge.

I'd still recommend school, though. I'm happy with what I do now, even if I'll earn pocket change for the rest of my life.

As far as I'd advice goes I'm probably not someone you should listen to. I know fuck all about the hierarchy and fuck all about any bit of sniping that ain't how the rifles work.
