Cho Var Banking officially insolvent
Thousands of loans facing uncertain futures, temporarily held by the PCAFS

Alia T’Neem, Aethon Journal of Finance

Panic struck the galactic banking scene today, as the Cho Var commercial banking union officially declared insolvency after a year of struggling to recover from the Reaper invasion. As Cho Var was responsible for over twenty thousand business loans and mortgages in the colonial housing industry, its demise is a source of serious concern for the Turian Hierarchy and Vol Protectorate.

“It’s sad, but not exactly surprising,” said in-house analyst Urdnot Wroomp. “Cho Var kept a huge part of the reconstruction efforts in turian and volus space floating, and they did it without gouging interest or establishing restrictive deadlines. It’s patriotic, but it’s also probably what did them in.” Patriotism notwithstanding, Cho Var’s collapse has caused considerable turmoil regarding the state of the outstanding government loans. The Protectorate Commission for Assured Financial Security, in accordance with volus policy, has stepped in to temporarily retain the loans until they can be sold off.

At present, there have been no announcements regarding which bank will acquire Cho Var’s outstanding loans or depositors. Until an acquisition is announced, former Cho Var depositors, including companies participating in reconstruction, may find that access to their funds have been temporarily disrupted.

You want people to vote for you, and you have no backup plan for something that is critically related to your personal immediate future?

Well, good luck with that.

Gestran, dude, yeah turians have elections. Don't ask me to explain em, cos I don't fucking know. Load of xemna shit about tier responsibilities, service time and political rank decides if you can vote, who you can vote for and how much they get put in charge of. Don't have a fucking clue myself, just wait for the office to send me the form and I fill it in. That usually means voting for the hot chick if there is one, you feel?

Yes, voting for the candidate you'd most like to stick your genitals into is bound to be a recipe for political stability and prosperity.

I thought the whole turian system was based on the people on top pulling the bottom up and taking the crap if things went wrong. And isn't the turian councillor appointed by the hierarchy? And since when did citadel space have elections?

Whatever you do, always remember to rock the boat!

What the fuck.

No.

This isn't supported as a thing. Seriously. The Hierarchy is not a democracy. The citadel has democratic elements, but the hierarchy as a whole? No.

Are you willfully unaware of Galactic Politics or is it more of a deficiency at birth? Yes, they do. Have done for centuries since before you or I were a glint in our Father's noble eyes.

Well, that applies to me anyway.

Max_the_Maverick Maverick!
Just a reminder to you fine voters that the polls for all elected positions on the Citadel open tomorrow! I am very excited to see the results, and I'm sure that all of you will make the right choice for your district, your ward, your station, and dare I say- your civilization! I'll be getting up bright and early myself to cast my ballot; and I'll be getting up just as early to go to work for you if and when you choose me to be your representative!

@Drusus. I kept it vague, we don't know every inch of turian politics. All we know is that they do have politicians; it stands to reason that at some point, somewhere down the line some voting maybe, potentially happens. Even if it's just certain members of a high tier voting on someone of a tier three below them for the position of town councilor in charge of garbage disposal. Rather than totally rule out the possibility forever and ever amen, I played the 'they do a little bit, kinda' to keep things a little less concrete. We do, after all, currently have a turian canvassing the boards for votes. Citadel based, yes. But he had to get into it somewhere...

The meritocracy system pretty much works on all levels of turian society. Decicions of appointment comes from above in the system, not from below, you are promoted by your superiors, not elected by a vote much like in our military. same goes for politicians. As for the whole getting elected on the citadel thing, I was under the distinct impression that the council (which is definitly not a democratic institution) ran all political and administrative aspects on the citadel, that doesn't leave much room for elected officials.

No offence, Maxxy Boy, but I'd vote Social Democrats all the way.

...if I was on the Citadel, at least.

What's your policy on closer integration to Earth?

Proud to have my feet on Earth again. Even prouder that they're in SATAE boots.

Regarding turian government: The Codex states that promotion to a position is decided by the candidate's superiors and co-rankers - you need to be approved by your bosses and be popular with your co-workers (or at least be thought of as competent enough for the job).

As far as the Citadel goes, it has democratic elections of some sort, most likely arranged by Ward and District. See Thane's loyalty mission in ME2.

...and this is the last all OOC post I'll ever make, I swear. Why go OOC when you can contribute IC as well? ^^

What's your policy on closer integration to Earth?

I say we should make use of every single advantage there is to having the Citadel be in orbit above Earth. Far too many of the current crop of legislators say that we should just march on blindly, ignoring the new circumstances we find ourselves and try to re-create the Citadel we had before. But if you vote a Maverick like me into office, I'll turn that outdated idea right on its head! I say we want closer trade with Earth, closer governmental cooperation with the nations of Earth, and much more! And not just right now, but think of the future! Once- spirits willing -the long and difficult period of reconstruction is finished, think of how many credits in tourism our fair station could earn from potential travelers down on Earth who wouldn't have come all the way out to the Serpent Nebula to see us but will now that it's in their backyard?
