All right. This may just be rumors but I feel like I should mention it; i've been hearing murmurs about a group (or groups) forming to assassinate people linked to things like Sovereign Nation. I know it's probably just a conspiracy theory and it's not even THAT weird, but, uh, yeah, I'm more curious if anyone else has heard about something like this?

Still, I've seen a lot of strange things - some hilarious, some strangely touching, some upsetting... but let's pick one that's just plain weird. I won't go into a long story (for once) setting up the context, but it was about 170 years ago, and concerned a salarian acquaintance of mine who, it turned out, was a man of his word when he said if his roommate couldn't justify the purchase he'd just made of a life-size terracotta krogan statue, he (the salarian) would eat it just to stop it taking up space in the dining room.

It was a replica, by the way - don't want anyone to think he'd destroyed an original.

Easy-going guy, but when he decided to make a point, he committed.

I actually enjoyed elcor Hamlet, if only because it was interesting to compare it to a human telling.

Back to the subject, I saw a Hanar husk during the war.

This one understands "Hamlet" to be a human introspective drama written prior to the Earth spacefaring age, and as such the concept of "elcor Hamlet" intrigues this one greatly. More specifically, this one finds it fascinating that works exploring a race's understanding of self-assessment through highly stylistic and expertly structured language should be successfully reinterpreted by another species, thus allowing cross-comparison and generating renewed capacity for insight into cultural self-examination. This one would be eager to view a performance - once it has acquired greater understanding of the original works. Essentially, this one respectfully submits that "elcor Hamlet" is not weird but instead representative of the manifest desire, near-universal among sapient life, to find greater awareness and improved self-understanding through comparison with the reefs of other species! Indeed, this one finds the concept of splitting the human sound-based speech and attendant emotional variances between the elcor's translated monotone and scent-based conveyence of argument and justification to be a most intriguing experiment in how sensory input defines racial perspective. Respectfully, this one must disagree with any assessment that this is weird, as it is representative of the greater truths that are to be found when the Many Voices speak in unison.

This one also respectfully suggests that hanar husks are not "weird", but in fact pervertions of the Enkindlers' will and abominations that should never have come to be. It apologises for its crudity in expression, but feels unapologetic about this statement.

This one did not mean to convey implication that the other's comment was motivated by dislike or fear of the hanar people. It merely found the choice of word highly inappropriate. The other's apology and clarification is appreciated, and this one extends its respect for the other's position.

Waveshavebroken, I liked Elcor Hamlet, but I must agree that it's weird. And you know what, maybe that word translates differently for Hanar, but as I understand it in that case it's not a bad thing. A bunch of Elcor doing human tragedies? Weird. But also brilliant.

How about the batarians, have you guys ever tried to interpret other species art into a medium that would better come across to your people or anything? I know that isn't exactly on topic but I'm kind of learning more about my own species and it seems early human civilization wasn't much different from the batarians culturally and politically, granted there were some differences but it was close. This kind of comes from having no formal education so forgive me if my words offend...

About 150 years ago I was hired to help overthrow this salarian warlord named Bromsha. His palace was full of statues of himself, you know pretty standard for the egomaniacal type of guy he was.

It's not offending at all! But I'm afraid we don't have much in the matter of shared alien culture, the Hegemony pretty much put a lid on it and outlawed anything preexisting. Now hopefully there will be more.

Given that the Hegemony is nonexistent, I have a good feeling that your people might actually have a cultural revival and evolution to look forward to. Of course I'm probably using words I don't fully grasp again, anyways, I think you should read about the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire if you haven't, fascinating stuff.
