Gestran prepared himself another sandwich while he listened. All in all it could be worse.
"Huh, so how did you manage after the relays were damaged? did you build your own little colony?" |

Bintar left his mess of a sandwich on the plate with a pained expression. He smiled at the question though.
"That's one way of saying it! Honestly it was a long wait, so we had to make do. We had plenty of food reserves fortunately, and we made it even more by careful rationing. We hunted, we gathered. It's a bountiful planet, that's why that Asari doctor survived 50 years. We mostly lived on the ship. A thing that saved us is that we had plenty of old weapons, from before the heat clips! They may not be as a reliable in a firefight, but they allowed us to hunt all that time. We also moved camp 5 times with the ship to follow the game." Bintar hesitated, and took a pitiful expression. "I'm sorry to ask that, could you maybe... Help me with that food? I'd really like to try it too, it seems great." He sure as hell was going nowhere by himself. |

Gestran shook his head, might as well show the fucker how it's done.
"Oh, it's easy, here I'll help ya out, you go bread, butter, mustard, salmon and fish eggs on top." He even made a little pattern with the eggs, his years working at a resturant while in college were paying off at last... This is SO WRONG! shouted a tiny voice inside his head again, it was getting fainter. The batarian for all his evilness was a charming fella. "Now, while you chew on that, who was it that made contact with you when your relay came online? And how did they react. I mean no offense but your line of work is sorta commonly frowned upon." |

Thank you very much! Yes, yes, the relay... Well actually nobody really called us...
Bintar interrupted himself to cautiously try the sandwich and started chewing, two eyes on his food, two others looking up, as if to better focus on the taste. Rapidly the four eyes opened wide and converged to the sandwich, then to Gestran, then surprise was replaced by pure joy. Man! This is delicious! I had no idea! Hmmm! Bintar took some more bites, savoring each. That's from earth? You're really coming from a great place... So yeah sorry, as I was saying, each week we tried to connect to all frequencies. Radio, extranet. One day it just... Worked. We were receiving. Ships were pouring through the relay. We went to the Omega system and connected with the rest of the company. Goddess this is the stuff of legend! Do you want a drink with that? We do we usually drink with that? |

Gestran considers it for a moment. Salmon is one thing but... No... No intoxicants...
"Just water really. Have to keep that pure taste, y'know what I mean?" He takes another bite before he continues. "So after that life simply went on as always? That seems wierd considering all the mess with the batarians post-war. did that give you any trouble?" |

Bintar nodded and asked the young asari slave to bring two glasses of water.
"Ho no sir, nothing was the same! The Hegemony was gone so we were at last free to start trading with other cultures! And most of the slaver gangs were gone now, or unable to operate. As you know you can't just use the relays, you need permission. such permission were possible for Slaves4Us, thanks to our relations and high level clients. It's actually a new era for slavery. The thug and pirate form of the craft is dying, leaving us professional ways to do things properly. Now we're diversifying. More construction jobs obviously, the need is high, and we opened a few factories to produce low cost necessities. We are booming mister Gestran, booming." |
