Former Hegemony Officials found in Mass Grave

Khar’shan News Network

AR-MAZD - In a gruesome discovery, the remains of seven batarian men and women were found in a mass grave, less than six kilometers away from the trade capital of Ar-Mazd yesterday. While analysts are still working to identify all the bodies, Ascendancy officials have confirmed that at least three of the bodies belonged to agents of the former Hegemony.

Details are still unclear, but decomposition was allegedly not advanced enough for the deaths to have occurred more than just several months ago, and cause of death appears to have been execution with a mass-accelerated weapon, with eyes removed in the process. Critics of the new government were quick to accused the Ascendancy of being behind the matter, though many remain unconvinced.

“While some members of the Ascendancy are permitted through special ritual to use mass effect technology, they scorn it,” one sociologist claimed. “They’re more likely to execute with more esoteric methods - hanging, electrocution, euthanasia. Eyes would never be removed, intentionally, as is the case here; doing so would go against sacred doctrines.”

The grave was discovered as part of the reconstruction effort.

SirtaScientist1 Female Batarian.

Yes, I know I look like a male Batarian. Most of us do.
I didn't like the Hegemony, but they should have been taken to Citadel space to face trial for crimes against Batarians and the other species... this is just monstrous.

There is a bit of wiggle room between "bawling my eyes out and writing emotional poetry" and "paving their graves into a dancefloor". Like virtually every other emotionally well adjusted and reasoning being in the galaxy I fall somewhere between the two.

In practice this translates to: I am not overly mourning their lost but neither am I cheering the fact that their bodies were horribly mutilated. Because, unlike some, I'm not a sick enough fuck that such news gives me a "spring in my step". That's the thing about basic empathy it doesn't just apply to people you like.

But, by all means, continue on with the logical fallacies if that's what makes you feel better.

Hey, hey, I admitted what I said was insensitive and I'm pretty sure I kind of heavily implied that I didn't approve of the mutilation. As for the "spring in my step," I was just kind of trailing off of what Pariah had said. She blithely made light of them and I followed along since like I said I'm not terribly torn up about it.

And please, tell me more about how logic applies to things based entirely in emotion like empathy. But before you do, look up some info on the phrase "cognitive dissonance." You'll learn that its entirely possible for a person to have plenty of empathy whilst still not caring when confronted by something like this.

Edit: Rereading the article that the news vi so politely uploaded twice I see that only three of them have been identified as hegemony. If the other 4 turn out to be completely unrelated then yes, they'll have my honest sympathies.

Please, just call me Hamilton. That's what everyone calls me.

...Firstly: cognitive dissonance is something that should be minimized rather than encouraged or used as an excuse for idiotic behavior.

Secondly: I suggest you do a bit of reading of your own.

Thirdly: You're an idiot.

I don't really see how that link applies to me. You were the one bringing all these choices into it, treating this like the only options were "Awesome, dead batarians," "I'm sad for them but not hugely invested" and "I shall weep and write letters of sympathy to their families," not me. I've been pretty consistent on my "not caring all that much" basis since, like I said the spring in my step was a joke. Admittedly a joke in poor taste but a joke.

And here's a link for that third bit.

I know, right? I honestly never thought a news article that ended in "Mass Grave" would put such a spring in my step. But when the Hegemony's involved that's just fine by me.
...Is what I was getting at. I've got absolutely no problem with Batarians and I'm sure as hell not one of those "Let the reapers come back and finish them off" types. If they were civilians or slaves or hell, even criminals or something then yeah I'd be very sympathetic because nobody would deserve what happened to them. But they were hegemony. And the hegemony has, let's be honest, done some terrible things and generally been rather troublesome to put it very mildly. I'll admit I was insensitive but I'm afraid I won't be shedding any tears over their deaths, sorry.

Yeah, yeah. FINE. I'm tired of all these pointless arguments on logic. I'm am not terribly torn up about the deaths of some Batarians half a galaxy away. The only thing that prompts any real sympathy in me is the fact that they were mutilated, which is pretty awful no matter who you are or what you've done. I made a thoughtless joke about it because I don't care all that much. Regardless of this I am not, as Mr. Sandman so elegantly put it, a "sick fuck." If you honestly expect me to believe that Sandman or anyone else in this thread cares about every single little sentient being that dies in the galaxy, even if it's only a little bit of care, then I would ask them to check themselves into a mental facility. There is too much going on in this universe to spare a care for all of it. If you can tell me, in complete honesty, that your eyes have never once been scanning a news feed, seen an article about a tragedy or a murder, and then flicked right past it without a second thought there is something wrong with you. It is not a nice thing to consider, it is not a happy fact and it's not something that many will admit to but it is the truth and you damn well know it.

So shut the hell up and stop bitching at me about not giving a fuck that some Batarians died.

Please, just call me Hamilton. That's what everyone calls me.

Friends, in these least premium of times, we must recollect the self-sacrificings that our best of buddies make for us. In example: all of these newsly batarians electric slid off of our mortal coil so that we could discover that our friend Bordello is awful at the interactions with other people.

But really, much like in moralizing children's cartoons, I am thinking this gnosis was within our souls all along.

I could've told you that.

And jeez, if people are going to say ill spirited things to me why can't they do it more like this guy^
At least then I can chuckle as they call me socially maladjusted. You've got panache, Eightball. You're alright by me. And I mean that as a compliment even if this thread probably makes that seem like a bad thing.

I thought Eightball made a very ... interesting if somewhat ... confusing point. Though it does seem ... peculiar to imply that the death of these Hegemony leaders was worth the ... insight gained about ... Bordacit's character.

Unlikely at best, but noted.

The Truth
I'm saddened by the death of the Batarians. No one deserves to die. They could have aided me in spreading The Truth.

Also I too have learned many things about you human SELLER person. I can see your cold, lack of caring at the needless death of Batarians and I believe that if you continue such attitudes we will be at odds. Your text may be blue but that does not make you a good person.

So says The Truth.

The Ascendancy can claim ignorance all it wants, but I certainly would not put it past them. Acting in such a way that the right hand knows not what the left is doing seems exactly like something they'd do.
