Cipritine Announces Legion/Cabal Integration
Via Claria Artin, Hierarchy Colonial Feed Cipritine, PALAVEN - A number of legions, depleted from harsh fighting on the homeworld just one year ago, have seen new blood from a very unexpected source - cabalists. A recent decision from the Hierarchy has begun a radical new experiment: biotic integration into existing legions. Spearheaded by the Office of Strategic Studies and put forward by a number of planning groups, this is what many have declared the next step in a systematic review of Hierarchy military principles. Fewer are happier to hear about the news than those legions chosen for the experiment - legions most bloodied by harsh fighting on Palaven, such as the 23rd Dirisin Legion. “I’ll admit, I’m not too sure about biotics. None of us ever talked much to any who don’t have tentacles growing out of their heads, but we’ve taken too many losses and seen too many things to say no,” stated Legion Corporal Artanis Rederix. The sentiment was largely echoed by the rest of his legion. At the time of writing, details are largely classified, although it’s known that at least sixteen legions are participating in integration - with joint exercises expected to begin as soon as possible. It’s unclear how many cabals have been involved in this integration; however, officials stress that it is merely a minority, with involvement of biotic trainees being reviewed by strategic planning groups. Not all are so happy with this experiment, however. General Vana Ramius expressed her dissatisfaction over this movement in a short interview with the Hierarchy Colonial Feed. “Frankly, this is absurd. None of us, least of all our soldiers, know how to deal with this. The division has existed for longer than most asari live lives, and we’ve all been trained under the assumption of that division,” she declared. “Retraining our soldiers and unmaking drilled instincts will cost us time and energy I doubt we actually need to spend. This isn’t a question of biotic prejudice, this is a question of necessity.” This was a concern that the Office of Strategic Studies was quick to respond to. “This will not be an easy transition," admitted an OSS representative. "Legions and cabals have existed as mutually exclusive entities for more than a thousand years. Barriers need to be broken down. We need to understand the best way to develop synergy between our soldiers and the unique abilities of these former cabalists, and implement those changes. There will be growing pains, but the committee has decided this is a transition best dealt with sooner rather than later.” The timeline proposed by the Office of Strategic Studies has suggested that these controlled integrations will continue in stages for the next five to seven years. A secondary Strategic Review Committee is scheduled to convene over its effectiveness shortly thereafter. Presslink News Aggregator: Collecting headlines from across the galaxy. It's fear. Plain and simple. The only true counter is knowledge. There are many, even among my own people, who assume that I have bizarre powers like the ability to read minds, and the more superstitious ones fear that biotics can control minds as well. From what I can tell these rumors are not exclusively batarian inventions. VictusDaMan wrote:Do we know for certain that the condition doesn't affect their mental capabilities?
For the vast vast majority of biotics it does not. Glowing blue is not synonymous with raging lunacy or prancing around the battlefield singing about rainbows while mortar shells land around you. The only head problems a biotic soldier is likely to have is a headache. SteelUnifier wrote:

Biotics are typically stronger, and can use this to their advantage and rise to a position of power. But fear and hatred combined with the mob effect often counters their innate power, since even the strongest biotic can be overcome by a mass of bodies and gunfire. The weak will always be led by the strong. Where the strong see purpose and act, the weak follow; where the strong cry out against fate, the weak bow their heads and succumb. |

I don't think you even need that...I mean, even if people were totally cool with biotics, biotics would still need to eat a ton, and have all kinds of health risks from the eezo exposure, and have an unique sense of the body. You could as easily say you don't want to trust me because I can put a bullet in you from two miles away. It doesn't mean I will, unless I have good reason, but I somehow don't see turians giving their special forces commandos the same crap they give cabalists, even though the commandos are equally dangerous (I would say more so, in the case of my general.) Yes, the blue glow thing is a bit odd, but funny enough, the more you see it, the more normal it gets. I'm not a commando, nor in the infantry, but simply used that particular arm as an example, because that's where they'll put the biotics. And yes, then there's the food. It's a logistical nightmare, if the military has to individually go through each soldier how much they can eat. And think about it: you set up a hedgehog and are surrounded, getting minimal supplies, then this dude that shines purple gets to eat almost twice as much as you. True story, bro. |

You're a moron. The Hierarchy is all about maximizing stability and effectiveness with the minimum amount of whining from sticks-up-asses such as yourself. Infantry is going to be the last realm of integration. Did you know that previously any turian that showed any level of biotic aptitude automatically got herded into a Cabal? Even if a kid only had a couple eezo nodules and could only perform parlor tricks like glowing blue once a day if he strained himself, the fact that he had them at all automatically sealed his fate. Inside Cabals, these "low-level" biotics do the exact same things that an ordinary grunt does: tech work, sniping, infantry, logistics. Initially what the Hierarchy is going to do is tap these low-levelers who were mostly sitting on their asses until late in the war and use them to repopulate positions from mainline divisions that lost a lot of people. There's no retraining involved because most of them are going to be doing jobs that they were already doing in the Cabals. They're not going to attempt anything remotely resembling full integration until they are satisfied that everything will go without a hitch (barring the whining of prejudiced morons). If you knew fucking anything about biotic physiology, you would know that biotics burn the overwhelming majority of their calories from actually using their powers. A low-leveler has the same or perhaps 5-10% higher caloric requirements than your average soldier. I'm betting you're one of those guys who's always overtly talking about how Cabals have infiltrated the Primarch's office/are plotting to purge anyone that doesn't glow blue, but covertly is always slinking off to fuck or be fucked by a Cabalist, yes? Mixing large amounts of cabals and legions wouldn't be a good plan. Discounting obvious issues of logistics and the widespread distrust of biotics, it's a bad idea because a shift like that would require large-scale reconfigurations of strategy across swathes of the armed forces. But at the same time, flexibility in the armed forces could be a good thing. I mean, it's worked for the humans.
If there's going to be any sort of mingling, it has to be small-scale. Very small-scale. Like attaching a biotic to a tank crew to reinforce shields, or serve as a backup artillery in an infantry squad. Very, very low-level. Even then? It might not be the best plan. Of course, this is all speculation. Until some integration actually happens, and is tested in the field, we won't know the results. |

The dude who shines blue is getting more rations because he's been blocking fucking bullets for you and weakening enemy armour and all-around doing things you could never dream off. Fuck off.

You know how I combated the food thing once? I explained in vivid detail what happens to a biotic who doesn't meet the caloric requirements. It's pretty standard practice in training to fast for a day while overexerting to get an idea of what that feels like so you know when it's time to employ the crash pen.
It's true it takes more energy to willingly use biotics but the fact is we're a bunch of people that have a lot of eezo floating around in our system that our bodies have just adapted to rather than treating it as a containment. The eezo is very reactive and the tissues that end up growing around it are very energy hungry. We eat a surplus so it goes there. You don't eat enough, it very quickly starts pulling from your muscles and its a painful feeling, like alternated burning and icy feeling. I'm no doctor but I was told it had to do with all the nerve tissue bundled up with those nodes misfiring and sending off strange signals to your brain. A soldier gets put on low rations, they have a miserable growly stomach so I'm told, they might get a bit hazy but generally the adrenaline takes care of that. A cabalist loses rations and we're sitting there wondering how long before the eezo eats us from the inside. That particular soldier never bitched again. I was in a Cabal. I like to think I know how the fuck they work. And that's your idea of an insult? Talking about my parents? Go ahead. Ever heard of Imperius Productions? That's what happened to me when food was scarce....I got the offal, the shit nobody else was quite desperate enough to want. Mmmm, blood pudding.... ...unless I was up in the mountains, those guys thought I was a demigod, which was actually really awkward.
