There was this hawk/eagle of some kind in my backyard, and I was able to get close enough to take this picture  Muck and I are trying to figure out what species it is, but it was so cool Edit: Turns out, he is a Red Shouldered Hawk. He who is brave is free. |

...I have some unfortunate news. The Hawk returned this morning, announced by my dogs who were all barking at him. Unlike previously, he wasn't on a branch, but on the grass, and did not fly away when we came near it.
This is how we found him.  Muck and I realized that he must have been hurt, and were uncertain what to do. Ultimately, since it seemed like it might take a longer time for someone to come get him, and we were uncertain how hurt he was (turned out to be his wing). Following some online instructions, we decided to rush him to the nearest humane society, after using a towel safely put him in box. ...When we arrived, they told us his wing had been too badly damaged to be set and rehabilitated, and said they were going humanely euthanize him...I'm not sure what else we could have done for him. I'm so sorry this story has a sad ending. I didn't want him to come to him to harm, but I don't know what else I could have done. He who is brave is free. |
