Jeral the Improbable Here I am. Just being awesome. |
Ok, first off...
I'm not sure why this has to be brought up in every game, but the initial votes for first day are always going to be based on flimsy logic/post counts/meta gaming, it's just what happens when you have no night knowledge to go on. While I appreciate the idea of waiting for everyone to show up, it's a bit too passive of an idea. Instead of digging for information or interacting with each other, we get a page of "here" posts that don't really help anyone. So, as Ash pointed out, vote smart and vote often. Alright, so, my opinions thus far: I urge incredible amounts of caution regarding LadyJo, KahjeForEternity, and Triskele. They are good players who almost always give off a town read, regardless of what faction they are playing. I'm not saying we should target them right now, but they are people who we should for surer keep on our radar. It's day one and Ash is being Ash (helpful and aggressive). I just want to point out another word of caution regarding Ash and j_proctor. They are players that tend to get people incredibly distracted, town or not. While its smart to watch them, be careful of letting them obscure the movement of scum or distract from scum hunting. It's been a problem before. And finally: [quote]Yes, yes, hello. Consider this to be my checking in post. Wonderful seeing the votes starting to fly already, even though there's people who haven't even posted yet. I get that being overcautious is bad, but we've got over a week for this day. We can afford a little patience[./quote] This post already kind of bugs me. I don't really like when people throw out the "oh, I'm checking in" stuff, or when they reassure people to be patient. The town lost the last game largely because people settled for no lynches and mostly quiet days. It comes off as scum trying to be helpful, yet remaining passive. It's not enough to condemn someone on, but it... Doesn't sit right. So, ProgrammingWithFire, What is your suggestion? We wait for everyone to post before throwing out votes, yeah? Why is that a better idea than voting? (note, this isn't a passive aggressive question, but I want to hear the "why" for those saying we should be patient). Anyways, I don't have a lot of time to throw a vote around right now, so that will be coming soon. I do want to ask ArchMagus what he would prefer people to do. A post saying "haha. Look at the day one crap storm" is not helpful at all. |

I'unno. Like you said pretty much any day one lynch is going off of either
a. varrenshit b. fuckall c. or your (:{ *IMAGINATION* }:) Talk too much and you get fucking lynched cause you're trying to "steer the town". Don't talk enough and you get fucking lynched cause you're totally trying to hide. So yeah, I had shit going on today but I don't mind throwing out a vote VOTE LADYJO btw (that one voted looked sad over there all by itself), but just know that there's not a whole lot of "YAY WHOOOHOOOO" behind it 'cause there is just about nothing to actually go off of besides a bunch of words that start to go in circles after awhile. |

Initial votes are just that. You said yourself they're liable to change on a whim, and we've got all the time in the world for whimsy.
I was just going with the 'pick two, lynch one' game. And if one of you two are bound to be scum, why not just start there? Plenty of time for others to chime in or make mistakes. Titan Corporation, Myrmidon Security Services |

What's my suggestion? Wait for everyone who's playing to show that they're here. It's not going to cost us anything (over a week for this day cycle), and if someone, by chance, is not here, then we have the opportunity to get rid of some dead weight instead of playing the lottery with a couple of people. It's not like I'm saying "don't vote at all until the very last second, guys!", I'm just saying maybe waiting a day for people to chime in isn't a bad idea.

Archmagus Blood, Fire, and Steel Legionnaires Forever |
All for chiming in but tbh the silent deadweight stuff doesn't really happen till the second Day at least.
Pretty much everyone's going to check in 'cause that's what they're expected to do and have to do (I mean why bother signing up otherwise, be fucking stupid right?); not going to get a lot that way man. |

It's been a problem before. I don't actually mean to distract the town... though I do often grab control of it. When I find someone who (I believe) is scum, I tend to hammer them as hard as I possibly can. Honestly and truly, that thing with Jo was meant more as a joke than anything else. Jo's response to it was interesting as were the reactionary votes on me. I want to hear a bit more from Linya, actually. The main issue with her is that she's a bubbly personality. Same issue as playing in a game with Dwick, honestly. It'll be hard to determine a good read on her due to who she is. Archmagus is abrasive, but he does tend to be consistent from games I've seen with him in there. |

Well it looks like except for Proctor we're all here. My timekeeping is a shade off but if they haven't seen by the end of the day or so it may be time to request a prod, since she may have not seen the game start.
And yes, please don't assume there is some hard and fast rule that Ash or I are scum in every game. I think that's happened twice if I recall, the one game where I was vanilla pirate scum and then the one game Ash was playing some sort of weird slaver cultist thing if I recall correctly. It's nowhere near as pervasive as the old "everyone must kill Abad" rule. Keeping my vote at the moment, not sure who to change my mind to yet in light of the recent responses to Jeral. I might be quiet today and tomorrow - shitty assignment due and two professors breathing down my neck to get their stuff graded by Friday. Hopefully it won't be the case.

Have we learned nothing from the last thread? Cracks about the futility of first-day vote reasoning are clear evidence of a sense of humour that must be immediately crushed to preserve the sanctity of this august children's card game.Anyhow, there is very little I can contribute so far. I know the "lynch two people to apply pressure" strategy is very standard, but I worry it may be drawing too much attention to LadyJo and Asharia and thus overshadowing everyone else. As it stands, I cannot suggest any alternatives, as I have nothing to go on. |

This one has taken the time to read over some of the posts, and has formed some of it's own opinions based on the writing styles of the others. Unfortunately, it cannot completely trust such feelings, as it seems as if it would be a simple thing to do to simply act as one's self no matter which team the other is on, thus making such "hunches" often inaccurate.
On a similar note, it has to note something that the one known as Asharia posted in the other's first post.. Players I know are good (in no particular order):
Jeral LadyJo Triskele j_proctor Hammerhead This one wishes to have a bit more clarification, as to whether the other knew the others were good in the sense of being a "good player", or in the sense that they are on the "good" team, in which case, how would the other know such a thing? |
Reena Tayn |
Okay, let's use a little logic here, kahjeforeternity (who, honestly I somehow missed on the table, I think).
I voted for LadyJo. She's on the list of players that I consider "good." Think about it for a second. |
Jeral the Improbable Here I am. Just being awesome. |
Asharia
I didn't mean that in a negative way, Asharia. I find what you do usually helpful, but I just wanted to warn people about getting too caught up in your aggressiveness/ encourage people not to just sit by silently and let you and whoever you suspect duke it out. ProgrammingWithFire, first off I can't really tell if your response sounded like you were peeved off or not, but just in case, my question wasn't meant to be accusatory. I honestly wanted to know why you wanted to delay voting. I sort of get your explanation in that regard, but in a game where there is no majority lynch, putting down votes while you wait for all people to post hurts no one, yeah? The benefit we get from early voting is to have more time to drum up conversation and try and find scum via that. And, I know I'm blabbering on about game theory here, but I want to remind people that we don't have "nothing to go on". Talk, ask questions, throw out crazy theories. On day one, almost any conversation is a boon of information. Alright, back to my thoughts on the game thus far: First off, there is someone who hasn't chimed in yet, that person being Triskele. And since we are past the twenty four hour mark... Vote: Triskele Consider it incentive to get in here and let us know what's up. I have really no reasoning here beyond I just want to hear from all the players. With that out of the way, KahjeForEternity I know your feelings might not be accurate, but you never know. Mind sharing whatever insight it is that you alluded to in your last post? Oh, and I know people are going to ask this so, the reason I'm bolding people's names is to make it easier to read my walls of text. I post a lot, so I want people I ask questions to or respond to to be able to quickly find the relevant section without having to read a novel :l |
ProgrammingWithFire |
Making a quick post to correct a (rather egregious) mistake I made in my last few posts. I'd been under the impression that the day ended next Friday, not next Monday. Knowing this, and knowing the only person who hasn't posted yet is Triskele, I'm going to
VOTE TRISKELE. |
KahjeForEternity |
Reena: This one finds itself unsure what the other is implying, as it sees multiple possibilities for such words and actions. This one does thank the other for their recommendation to use more logic, however.
Jeral: One of it's feelings include a bad feeling within the posts of the Archmagus. However, it thinks this may just be because of the crude way the other composes their posts with foul language and laid-back way of speaking. It believes it may just be off-put by the person's personality and not necessarily anything to do with the game. |

Kahje, Reena was clarifying, in her sardonic and mildly aggressive way, that she was voting based on her target being a good; as in skilled, player. If she had a list of 'good guys' it would be beyond stupid to announce it, and one would hope if such a list existed, she wouldn't vote for a player on there, yeah?
I think that was the 'use a little logic' she was hoping for. Titan Corporation, Myrmidon Security Services |

Fine, I'll change my vote. I picked Epsilon because she hit a pet peeve first and was as good a target as any.
Vote KajheForEternity I have lost count of the number of times that hanar has derailed a game by being confusing with his polite doublespeak or just pretending to be straight up obtuse. And it's already happening again. Being rude is horrible and might make a player sound like scum but it happens. Being perky (Scientific Pursuits I'm looking at you, you've deflected a lot in the past with this technique) makes people like the player and can often result in them not pushing as hard on the player. Being confusing is irritating and distracting and if we've used up half of page 3 already trying to explain to the hanar that a "good" player is good at playing the game and not necessarily town, then I don't want to see what's going to happen when we have real suspects. It's a technique now? I'm not doing it on purpose......or am I? Mwahahahaha! (no, really, I'm not) Professor Linya M'Tanis at your service! Wheee! |

Linya, there's always things to say. Your opinions on who looks bad, etc. Honestly, my goal day one is to get people talking. The more people talk, the easier it is to figure out their alignment. Unless people are exceedingly good at it.
Jo does have a point about kahjeforeternity. He trying to cast a suspicious light on what I said in my first post. What he asked was inane and seemed a little like a scum ploy. Unvote LadyJo Vote KahjeforEternity |

Aren't hanar pretty confusing when they speak either way though? I don't really see anything unusual with Kahje's speech...for a hanar at least.
