Charon Relay Increases Efficiency, Traffic Volume

Pluto Traffic Control Centre, SOL: Charon Relay Control reported a 30% increase in efficiency and traffic volume in yesterday’s semi-annual State of the Relay press event. These observations were mentioned alongside reports of optimization of various intergalactic flight management processes and better inter-relay comm traffic.

“The sooner precise data is transmitted to Charon Control, the faster we can manage the traffic,” said Control manager Pierre Simeon. “We have issued a set of new procedures to do so over the last six months, and we’ve see it at work, increasing possible traffic.”

Further actions included widening of the turning zones for ‘touch and go’ flights, and the optimization of the ‘only-in’ and ‘only-out’ windows to open relays to shorten adjustment times.

Said Simeon, “we started operating with a three minute schedule, having 480 movements per solar day after the repairs. After the first improvement step, we are currently running at 750 movements and the plan is to increase to 1000 in the next step and 1400 after that. After all, nobody really knows where the actual limits for the relay are, so we are taking a cautious approach.”

A ‘movement’ is one transit operation and consists of several ships from the same relay to the other. Free trade relay slot prices slumped 14% after this announcement.

Gah! And I had my travel to Nasarn locked in...

So does this mean imports will take less time getting here? Hoping for that - or at least, that I won't be charged an arm and a leg for some basic Sur'kesh beer now.

About. Fucking. Time. NOBODY needs to suffer a long relay waiting time, not on the scale we had to deal with. I swear, nobody should ever have to deal with that...

I hope this means travelling is going to be cheaper and a lot faster than it has been, too. I wonder if they're going to implement the same efficiency protocols at the other relays after they fully optimise transit at Charon? If the other relays are in a state that can handle more traffic, that is.

Actually, I was upset that my travel time will probably be shortened AND the costs will drop a bit - I was told I'd get an update on the itinerary when I arrive at the Citadel - I'll be there in 3 days!

Seriously, everything passing through the Sol relay was something I was really worried about. Now it seems we have the situation under control and traffic isn't piling. Travel prices still suck seriously but one of the benefits from being part of the diplomatic corps is, I don't have to worry about that.

Not that I want to travel much anyway at the moment.
