Lost Outpost Discovered

Yuri Kangawa – Alliance News Network

An Alliance patrol discovered a lost outpost on Fairgrounds M-26 (Horse Head Nebula) earlier this week with three surviving Alliance Marines on it.

An Alliance spokesperson explained that the remote planetoid had not been in any official mapping of Alliance posts in that region. When a Frigate on patrol closed in to examine the wreckage on it, however, it was fired upon by SAMs. Luckily, the crew evaded the attack and identified the weapon as Alliance. After further investigation, three humans were detected.

The recovered marines, two privates and an NCO, were reportedly under the impression they were under attack by Cerberus forces, but were finally convinced of the Alliance’s identity.

“All three are in a relatively healthy state, considering the time cut off from supplies," stated the Alliance representative. "It seems that the SAM was about the only piece of equipment left intact, as almost all ammunition for small arms had been spent."

Fairgrounds M-26 has a thin atmosphere and simple levo-based flora, which kept the three alive for nearly two years.

“We are just happy to go home, now," stated the NCO in a brief statement. "But first, I need a shower.”

Great news!

A few questions.

1 - The ammo was presumably spent hunting or defending from Cerberus operatives- What fauna exists on the planet?

2 - What were they doing on the outpost if it wasn't on the maps?

Finally home!

Protip: If it isn't black, white and yellow or husks it probably isn't Cerberus.

Tell that to Citadel Customs and C-Sec.

Fairgrounds? Sounds cynical.

Obvioulsy there seems to be no fauna at all, so they could save the ammo... no hunting. Maybe they saved bullets for themselves.
I wonder how many outposts or operatives are out there still, either in locked up or in forgotten systems?
Not knowing that the war is won and all... forgotten and lost. Horrible thought.
I am happy for those humans!

Nice to see good stuff in the news every once in awhile. 'Sides, if its any consolation to them for time lost, I'm pretty sure that those guys'll be able to get all the free booze they want just by whipping out the fact that "I spent almost two years marooned on a rock hunting animals to stay alive".

Know I'd buy them a round or two anyway.

But yeah, good that some families are going to get their marines back. Better late than never with that kind of thing.

No, you have a smudge on your visor that makes it look like it!

I just had my visor cleaned. It is clearly a Cerberus insignia.

Whoa wait, two years? Wouldn't that mean they were there since BEFORE the Reaper war started? Man, they have a lot to be caught up on I think.

...no.

The Reaper War began in 2186. It's now 2188. Presumably these Marines have been there since the earlier part of the Reaper War.

Regardless that's still a lot to catch up on.

I thought it had only been a year since the Reaper War. That was the stated canon wasn't it?

See the timetags on posts? We're moving on 1:1 timescale now, with the clock starting at 2187, one year after the end of war.

If the outpost is unmapped, I imagine that they were not stationed there - Though one does indeed have to wonder how they found themselves there. More likely than not, there was something that forced them to run there, and they were assumed MIA.

The alternatives are not exactly the most pleasant things to think about in terms of the Alliance's honor.

May you never forget what is worth remembering, nor ever remember what is best forgotten.

Technically, the one year mark was at the end of 2187 (when forums started). So a year and 3-4 months since the end of the war.

I am more than somewhat disturbed by the Alliances continuing patrols through a cluster in which they have no colonies or sovereign power.

They may not have authority in Pax, but the Horse Head Nebula is a rather large cluster, yes? If I am remembering my history correctly, the Fortuna system was charted by the Alliance.

The cluster occupies a rather large volume of space, but the nebula itself (which only occupies part of the cluster's full volume) is almost devoid of stars and planets. There are a number of recently charted worlds in the cluster, but it is still fairly uninhabited (which is one of the reasons the area was so popular with Cerberus). I am unaware of any significant colonies in the greater nebula region other than Noveria.

They must have scraped fungus from rocks to survive! There is not much to find on such planetoids. This must be a pretty deserted piece of rock.

The_Sarcastic_Salarian wrote:Privatized salvage route?
Are you suggesting that Alliance ships are doing something on the side?
I doubt it. In that case they would have left no witnesses perhaps. I more or less think it was a mission looking for Alliance wreckage. something like that is even stated in the article. It seems, they had all reason to, since they actually found something worthwhile.

It is not unheard of that outpost records are lost. Could have been that their drop ship got destroyed soon after and nobody ever got the records. I also assume that, like on Thessia, also on Earth a lot of records got destroyed during the war.
I am happy for those guys, I hope they receive the welcome they deserve and still have someone they can return to.
