Crime Lord Launches Prison Escape Using Prosthetic Limb

INTRIS - Hierarchy officials of both Oma Ker and Digeris are offering a 7,500 credit reward for information leading to the capture of turian crime lord Lorimix Tusam, whom has managed a daring prison escape using unorthodox techniques.

Hierarchy officials were shocked to learn that the man had escaped after his quiet capture ten days ago near his Oma Ker apartment, but security footage from the escape shows that the man literally had a surprise up his sleeve.

“We were guiding him from one transport to the other when his entire right side seemed to just fall off,” stated Intris Correctional Facility official Omen Hap, speaking from his hospital bed at Intris. “Then I’ve got something jumping at my face there was shooting, and, well, next thing I knew I woke up here.”

Tusam has now been identified as an amputee, presumably from the the Reaper War, having hidden the cybernetic device from authorities through elaborate E/M shielding and clothing choices. The limb, which was incapacitated on-site, was outfitted with elaborate technology, adapting omni-blade offensive technology to “run” and attack enemies using miniature bladed limbs of its own.

During the ensuing firefight, Tusam escaped his escort, retrieved a firearm from a wounded officer, and escaped on the transport he was carried in on. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

Hierarchy officials warn that Tusam is considered to be armed and very dangerous. Anyone who sees him is urged to contact law enforcement at the following address.

Stuff like this is expensive and tightly regulated (in C-Space that is).
This "crime lord" Tusam must have some connections prior his incarceration to get those.
Anyway, even with the EM-shielding I wonder how this wasn't discovered by whoever must have searched him. I mean, they had him for 10 days, someone must have done a full body search and medical.

In hindsight, all those discussions about the complete lack of utility with regards to omni-blades seem slightly silly.

...Why would you put it in quotes? I mean he's literally a crime lord, identified as such in both articles about him. By definition he has connections, that's basically what being a crime lord is (as opposed to just being a criminal).

The morning news chat shows were having far too much fun with this line today.

Still, setback notwithstanding, they've got the prosthetic - a device with the sort of capabilities the reports are describing would not come cheap, or be within the grasp of your average cybernetics tech. That much money and expertise are pretty difficult to hide, so the limb itself ought to provide some useful leads in trying to recapture him.

(Alright, I admit, it got a giggle out of me.)

I can't tell if I want to laugh because it's so absurd to imagine, or to be vaguely impressed that he managed to hide it and actually escape. Definitely not a use of prosthetics you see every day.

That seems definitely like a one-time trick, though. Everyone's going to know that he's capable of doing it, so I doubt he'll be able to get away next time. Hopefully they capture him in time before he can think of another getaway plan.

Palmer Why are you reading over here?
Have to wonder how they subdued the device as it... ran (????) around.

On the Move.

Don't you have anything better to do than to obesses about where I put my quotation marks?
Anyway, I don't take any label that newsfeeds use on the people they report seriously.
Or you can join the crowd on this forum that likes to call me insane (among/and/or other things).
Whatever makes you happy.

Always have to me. I mean, the Reaper War had more close combat than most others, but even before that, you often had very close-up combat. Bladed weapons are useful in that, and an omni-blade can be deployed rapidly.

Peaceful life and liking it that way.

No omniblades are still ridiculous.

In order:
I) I'm here, obsessing about your quotation marks. Seems like it kinda answers itself?
II) That seems counterproductive when any official governmental figure (such as the President of Turians) is quoted.
III) Anything I want? Really?!
IV) Okay, Cousin Boshie!

Because an instantly deployable melee weapon is ridiculous.

Okay.

(Seriously, even if it doesn't see use as a primary weapon, it's a good backup and having one saved my life.)

1. It's not instant. It takes a good 2-3 seconds to deploy a omniblade, about the same time it takes for a trained soldier to pull out a knife. More than it takes to just shoot them or stab them with a bayonet.

2. The vast majority of times you're much better off using a shotgun than a melee weapon in close-quarters combat. Because an armed enemy is jsut going to shoot you while you get your melee weapon out. Prior to the Reaper War, I only ever used my melee weapon (a good mono-molecular weapon I still have) to open MREs.

3. Which you can't do with a omniblade.

4. They glow. Like, the majority of times a melee weapon is viable is when you're sneaking up on someone because, hey, there's actually no such thing as a silent gun. An omniblade is useless as a stealth weapon.

5. The angle of strike you can use is very limited because they're wrist-mounted.

Man, just imagine that same line of reasoning running through the guards' heads as the legs formed on that beastie.

It is rather like something out of a Blasto vid.
