Star of Athame to visit Citadel

The Thessian Observer

Serrice, THESSIA: Twenty-four crew members of the Star of Athame expedition will leave their undisclosed location for the Mankina cluster once again, following a crew vote opting for colonization on one of their discovered garden worlds instead of returning to their previous homes.

A communiqué submitted to the press stated that the individuals who volunteered had no surviving relatives following the Reaper War. The group will be provided with a colonial freighter and all necessary equipment to set up a colony by the Thessian Board of Astronomy. Without an active relay, the transit is expected to last about two standard years.

The remaining crew, along with one of the newborns, will slowly move back to their home Republics on Thessia, a decision each member made after quietly visiting their relatives over the past several months. Following this announcement, several publishers approached the Board of Astronomy for contacts and placed offers for book and vid rights. However, no details or sums were disclosed.

This news arrives amidst the Interspecies Conference currently in progress to examine scientific data collected by the Star of Athame crew. Several members are expected to take leading roles in the science teams. Meanwhile, a delegation from the team, led by Captain Sindi, is expected to visit the Citadel on the Athame herself to meet the Council later this month.

It's good that some found their families. I feel that that and the colonization are far more interesting than the captain meeting with the council, I don't really see why a footnote in the article made the headline.

I'm guessing it's because that headline would get more clicks than "Orphaned Research Crew Re-Enters the Time Capsule."

Probably, Mr. Spiza.
Also that's kind of more relevant to the public I'd think. The crewmembers private affairs are just that, private. They are just short of publishing lists of names anyway by now. Well, as it is I have plans to come to the Citadel, maybe I'm still around when they arrive.

The ship and their crew would make a great addition to the CEF, maybe that's what this going to be about?

Poor gals had a hell of a bittersweet homecoming... I understand why they'd prefer to build a new one.

Out of curiosity, how does the fact that the asari usually dislike mating between themselves play in that case?

No other options available?

Who told you that?:P
Seriously though. It's not the 'mating' that's considered problematic but only the act of reproduction. I am sure if that's what you meant? However one may stand towards this issue, this is a spacial case in my eyes. If you're on a several hundered year journey with no guarantee to come home again, the set of social rules may transform into something new. We have no exact information how old the asari are that were born in space but they could be full grown maidens already.

If I remember correctly, there were three born in space, so two opted to set up the colony instead of staying, maybe with their mothers. The third one may sadly enough face the issues these children do nontheless. But there's hope that there are more important things than this on Thessia. Not all regions are alike, no idea where she's going to.

Then again, seeing the whole Sacire debacle, it always can come at you.

Yeah I meant having kids, and that the kids of two asaris were offensively called mudbloods or something.

Quite close, heretohelp. The word you're looking for is pureblood and I'd recommend to not use it lightly, it is a rather strong offense. Yes, that's still what this kid is seen by those who would want to raise an issue about it. For all I care, I do not even want to know such details. I agree with Taleeze, that all may depend on the Republic they are going to and on the age of the girl. If she's young and going with her mothers as a family it will be obvious of course.

It's a more pronounced case, but from my understanding, far from unprecedented. In all seven expansion waves it's been the original explorers who've gone on to become the leaders of colonies founded in their expedition's wakes - not invariably, but certainly a majority of the crews, so far as I remember my history classes. I can see the attraction, you spend your youth (perhaps more than intended, in this case, but in general it fits the pattern) discovering these uncharted places, it's only natural that where your mind goes when you start feeling the Matron desire to settle and build. Coming back to the homeworld to find the aftermath of a war likely just hastened the decision, in most cases.

Taleeze, I'll have you know I am insanely jealous, and if you see the Star, get plenty of photos. (I doubt we out here would really merit a visit from a ship of that significance, but I'm still hoping.)

I feel sad when I read this part. All of those years away from your family, only to come home to them all dead :(

It is in a way. But think about the otherw ay around. They have also been dead for the relatives for some centuries. It's a reminder that time can be a harsh mistress.

In a way they had already formed a new community aboard that ship, so staying together and seek out a new life ion an uncharted world is appropriate. We may see a thriving addition to the Republics in a century or two. I expect, with their publicity, once they have set up camp, new settlers will follow.

Daia, I have no idea when they will be around but I'll have a look around!

That is true, I guess. It is still very sad though.

Holy Athame, you just made me realize that they were away longer than the Migrant Fleet even existed!

Shocking isn't it? I have to wonder if another reason they made this decision is because the galaxy they knew is just too alien and different for them to acclimate too now

I have to admit, I am very happy to have the opportunity to even have a glimpse of these astounding people. The crew of the Star of Athame is for sure a paragon for everybody involved with the CEF. A true inspiration to all of us!

If only I could approach any of them... So many questions that I have to ask!

An old human saying says "Oh no not I, I will survive
For as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive!"

Very wise those humans were.<3
