Independent Group Calls For Preservation of Rightful Line

“Sovereignty for the British Islanders” was the rallying cry for salarian/human interest group United MotherHood, which today announced its intention to support Dame Elizabeth Frances Grey of Shanxi in her mission to have the human SATAE recognise her claim to the throne of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

A nation based on Earth’s British Isles and now, like all nations of the planet, legally defunct, the Kingdom made recent headlines with the announcement that by long-established tradition, Dame Grey was now the rightful heir to its traditional monarchy. United MotherHood, heretofore unaffiliated with Dame Grey or with the official leadership of the Salarian Union, offered a statement of support, with Spokeswoman Falassai Linsorrl explaining that “it is precisely in times of upheaval and loss that the structure of traditional culture must be respected. We urge SATAE to consider its responsibilities to upholding their historic lineages in the face of so much destruction”.

"After all, didn't the dalatress, the salarian queens, do a bang job during the war?" continued Linsorrl, before being laughed out of the room.

"After all, dalatrasses and queens are completely the same thing under my narrow lens of the galaxy, as they exist in exactly the same sociopolitical realm of matriarchal influence, power, and history. I completely know what I'm talking about, everyone appreciate how funny and edgy I am!" continued an ignorant idiot, before being laughed off the extranet.

Why would a salarian group care about some woman demanding to carry on an outdated tradition on some tiny, damp island on the human homeworld? Many humans couldn't give a toss.

Unless it's part of some labyrinthine scheme too complex for my tiny monkey brain to handle, I suppose - though, in fairness, my own particularly tiny monkey brain can't manage simple arithmetic without the aid of coffee.

Holy shit Steel Unifier, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU? Will you tell us one day? Ever? You insult someone every single post, were you always like this? Did something horrible happen to you during the war? I used to be annoyed by your constant aggressiveness, but now I find it worrying!

So that was a joke. I made a joke. Queens and Dalatrass are not the same things, everybody knows that. I just played on the assumption that the salarian union seemed to encourage a political system that vaguely resemble them. Maybe it's not why they're doing it, maybe it's a coincidence, I don't know, and it's ok.
Now can you answer my post like a normal person, calmly, like an adult, even if you happen to disagree with me and even if you don't like me?

Steely has been always abrasive person, Here to Help. She is just like her carapace, rough and untouched by influence of others around her.

Kindly cease making faux-saucy remarks regarding the state of Ms. Caran's carapace.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that your interest is making everyone supremely uncomfortable.

Quite like your decidedly non-turian genitals, whelp.

A brief search of the extranet shows that the position that the human desires has no power to it.

If this is true, why does the whelp demand such a position?

I would say the palace.

But well.

It got a tad squashed.

The monarch's not powerless, as such, are they? I got the impression it was more a case of the executive power of the government actually originating with the royal head of state, but being so commonly and traditionally placed in the care of the elected officials that the monarch's role was functionally ceremonial, in most cases.

Mind you, that's not a lot more than a couple of weeks' exposure to various guidebooks and tour guides speaking...

My understanding is that, while the position of the British monarch is functionally ceremonial, the position is well beloved by the national populace. Officially it doesn't hold any real power, but it makes an amazing public-relations figure. I'd be surprised if the Alliance didn't at least get things moving for that direction. Would be a nice moral booster for the local area.

The monarch also gets a nice little salary from the state for the sake of being a monarch...

I'm not going to dignify a patronizing shithead, so no. Fuck off.

Pretty sure the state doesn't exist anymore, mate.

Funny, people throw more tantrums over this Dame Grey than the ones they're accusing her of. What's the skin off your back?

Frankly I think they're very well suited for each other.

Oh look, a fucking dictionary.patronizing present participle of pa·tron·ize (Verb)
Verb
Treat with an apparent kindness that betrays a feeling of superiority.
Frequent (a store, theater, restaurant, or other establishment) as a customer.
This would be more scathing if you actually understood what the word 'patronizing' meant (too many syllables?) and could explain how that at all applies to me or my posting behavior, idiot.

But, uh, whatever.

In a way this monarch's role always struck me more of a high priestess than a politician. The role seemed to be more of a semi-religious leader figure everyone could agree upon next to actual political leadership where everyone had different opinions.
This terrible mess with the line of heritage sounds overly complicated in comparison to the Matriarchal system. Anyway, having complex rites and seemingly absurd rules of succession. The people affected by this should find a mean to find a democratic solution for this probably. That's interesting to follow anyway.

It's not overcomplicated. This is literally how succession works. You just keep going down a list until you find the closest relation possible. Sometimes this means there's a daughter you can pass it on to, sometimes it means a third cousin. And sometimes this happens. It's as simple or complex as it needs to be.

I don't know why people whined about her claim to the throne. It's real. It's there. It's not going to go away.

...With all possible respect that I can muster:

It's not a democracy.

That's rather the point of the institution.
