[Earth]Missing Children Increasing, Sparks Worry

The increased amount of missing children may be more than just runaways, SATAE authorities say. Over the past six months, over forty children have been reported missing to local authorities in the South-Eastern United American Northern States, and an additional forty were listed as possible runaways. Amber alerts went out the days of the reports, but only some of the children have been found.

The missing children aren't only human, but they are also children of those who came for relief efforts and reconstruction efforts. A full list of missing people by area can be found on the SATAE missing persons database [here].

Authorities give the following advice to keep your children safe:

Know where your children are and who they're with.
Pay attention to your children.
For older children, don't let them travel alone, just in groups.
Keep an eye out for suspicious persons and report them to authorities.
Give your children a way to communicate with you, whether it be omni-tool or location pager.

Remember, no prevention is something that works all the time. Our hearts go out to the families of the misssing children, and we hope they will be found soon.

I'm unfamiliar with the NAUS, is the South-East region the former Florida and Georgia states?
I know those areas are very non-receptive to outsiders.

As far as I can tell, the South East UNAS is either: Mostly metropolitan around a few large cities, or large amounts of countryside which is in various parts of disarray. I do know that Georgia, for instance, was one of the hardest hit cities during the war for its military and economic position, but it has also provided some of highest growth in the last year. They've been fairly welcoming the one or two times I was there for work.

In fact, they're one of the more supportive areas towards the Alliance presence.


However, as I said there is still plenty of uncultivated land floating around there. Easy enough for people out there to get lost or stray away, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's some criminal activity going on as well.


Get far enough away from the cities though ... especially in the places that still have high radiation ratings?

I don't know much about Earth, being born on Palaven, deployed all over the galaxy, and, y'know, being turian, but it seems to me that that amount of children going missing in that short a time-span is well beyond average. I had always heard that America was one of the safest and most progressive places on Earth. Was this particular region of the South Eastern Northen United American States (or whatever) hostile/dangerous before the war?

I know a lot of things changed in the aftermath of TRW, but if it was already like that...

I don't know if I'm reading this right. Are they saying that someone is deliberately targeting the children of aid and relief workers? Because that's really messed up, you know? Are they trying to punish people for helping rebuild Earth?

Not necessarily. Notice how it says 'not all'? That means that some have been humans themselves, which could suggest that some are just victims. It seems likely, though, that relief/aid workers are being targeted by whoever (if anyone) for whatever reason.

However, it could be just as likely that these kids are just getting lost while playing or exploring or whatever.

It could, also, just be random abductions of any children from any background of any species.

Why would it be abductions of children of any species or background? Sure, sometimes some fucked-up people will do weird shit. But usually large-scale kidnapping sprees like this (if that's even what this is) have some kind of discernible pattern. All we have to go on for this is 'kids are gone lol.'

i've heard though that people who lost their kids would pay enormous money for, you know, replacement. not sayin' this is what's happening, i hope i'm wrong but i know such sickos are out there.

I was just saying it was a possibility. As for motive, it could be as simple as 'hey kid, where do you live, we'll hold you ransom', or it could be far more disturbing and complex. Like, they might need any amount of children from that specific area for some reason.

But, look, I don't know. Like you said, we don't have much to go on, and I'm starting to sound like a conspiracy theorist when I'm sure there's a semi-logical explanation for this (i.e. someone crazy is doing it for no reason or all these kids are just running away).

This is horrible, I hope the poor children are returned safe and sound as soon as possible.

Soooooo yeah, I'm going to avoid visiting Earth with the family for an indefinite length of time. Paranoia, you see.
