[Culture] Rannoch Temple of Dia’Tanul reopened after restoration

The ancient temple on Rannoch has now been partially opened to the public again after extensive restoration. Known for its large scale mosaic displays of ancient quarian mythology, the temple is not only a center for re established rituals and cultural events but also an important document of the quarian cultural heritage.

“We reopened the large chamber and the northern wing” archaeologist Prof. Zef’Kurun vas Rannoch told us. “We have sealed the mosaics on the floor and the walls with a protective and air-conditioned transparent plating, so future use of these rooms can’t harm them. It is like a transparent envirosuit for the building. This way, you can walk through the tales of our ancestors without doing any damage.”

Among the first visitors was a school class with their history teacher.
“I love the colorful clothing of the people and all the weird monsters! But the faces are strange!”

“It’s cool to see all those people not wearing a suit; I also want to walk around without any suit!” some of the kids said.

Others called for a more restricted approach. A small group was outspoken against the public display of the ancient mosaics:

“While it is important that our children learn about our ancestors and history, especially since so much of it has been lost. We should consider the ramifications of showing them so many bare faces.”

Reconstruction in the southern wings and the adjoining facilities are continuing and further reopenings are expected gradually.

'we should consider the consequences of showing them so many bare faces'.

I'm not the only one who thinks that that is a bit...odd?

Jeral the Improbable Here I am. Just being awesome.
Yeah, it seems a little weird. But, eh, a lot of non-salarian species seem to have a heck of a hard time letting go of the past, so maybe it's just par for the course.

Hopefully there will be some holos up, though. Any footage we have gotten of Rannoch has been awesome to view but... Dang is that place dry. :S

Well, showing your face is a very intimate gesture in today's quarian society (correct me if I am wrong, quarians!). I expect the paintings showing ancient clothing styles - which in most cultures tended to be more revealing anyway, for the quarians even more so. I could imagine, everyone going bare faced all of a sudden must be even more problematic than showing "mammary glands" for other cultures (to refer to a recent discussion here)

But yes, I would very much like to see pictures - or even visit. Well, in a century or two maybe.

Titus-Train ^ That guy is Major Titus Scapula.
Times change. They were 'exiled' for a long time, and since they have had the whole suit thing going for the better part of three centuries. I guess this is similar to hanging up paintings of full nude people at an art gallery only more... Taboo, I guess?

Ain't nothin' can stop the Titus-Train!

I'd argue its not on the same level of intimacy as say suit-linking, revealing one's face in controlled conditions is more a sign of mutual trust. Emphasis on "controlled conditions" of course, being allowed to share dinner together in a clean room with the mask off is an example.

Anyway, I'm glad to find more of our people's history is still intact, perhaps when we develop the infrastructure, we can invite off-worlders to see more of our pre-Exodus culture. In due time and conditions of course.

...Is the implication of this article that, quarian children upon viewing multiple quarian faces exposed in art, will promptly take off their faceplates and go sprinting across Rannoch scrublands?

It would be rather callous to invoke natural selection in an issue concerning children but, well, if the shoe fits and all that.

It's a face. They all have one. It's not like it's a pornographic fresco or anything and, frankly, the vast majority of cultures aren't too bothered by tasteful depictions of nudity in an art form anyway (though the definition of tasteful may vary a fair bit) so I'm...not entirely sure what you're getting at honestly.

Mother wishes to go, although due to her...condition, she will never make it there. We're looking to see if I can make it there some time, and try and see if I can record a video there and stream it to her real-time. It won't be the same as being there, but at least we can get her an in-depth view of the temple. It's better than nothing.
