Taleeze Collector of Harborlights
So, I finally started my little project. Well, it started out a while ago when I made the first purchase on junkland.net (thanks for all the tips!) but today the first package of stuff arrived!!!

You can never know until you actually get the material, there's so much scam out there but I got to know a few really interesting people.
There's a little garage I could find with the help of someone from work where I will start assembling it. The first part will be welding the frame. That garage has an Elcoss DRX8 welding drone so this will be a slice of cake.
I have outstanding deliveries for an engine housing and other things. Building up the drive core will be the coolest part!

Oh, and the best part, I met a crew member of the Ariake-Illium hoverbike team on solpowered.net! I had no idea they were sponsoring something. It is only a local thing of the Illium branch but I managed to land a promotion deal with them so I will be at the race track over the weekend in Ariake colors for the team. It's great although hoverbikes, but who races actual two-wheels these days? Still, a lot of the people there are very much into motorcycles of all sorts and I look forward to talk shop with them.
So, if you have a bit of free time and like bike racing, watch the IHRO hoverbike event from Helix Arena and root for Derek Jagr (#11)!

Did I mention I am excited? I am excited!

I will have you know good madam that there are those of us who have an intense love of all things real-two-wheeled-motorbike.

Hoverbikes are pretty cool though, but they lose some of that majesty. I require any motorcycle I ride to be at least 80% chrome, and nothing beats that combustion engine sound.

Welcome to the club though. If you need any help building the thing let me know and I will ride my vintage-as-hell old Earth motorbike (Which I found during the war) over to you on whatever planet you are on unless it's a sky city or something.

Really? Fun times - and you can't have too many connections to a company that big. Be sure to tell Eafina when you see her (I'm at the club now so she's just down the hall, but you ought to get to impress her yourself).

And have fun with your pile of parts too. I noticed Skylar sporting a black tank top and leather pants the other day, is that her contribution to the project? ;)

This is in fact very true. But you sound as if you have missed the first part of this. I am actually looking into something with quite a bit of polished chromium. Human designs seem very inspiring.

You 'found' it? Nice. Well, so far I am set with everything but lets see how this develops!

She knows - reminded me to wear an 'Apricity' button! Also, she was actually the one giving me the address of that garage.

Goddess, you saw her like that? Isn't she so rad? She is closely observing that I plan on making it a double seater. But saying that, I can actually see her wanting to try on her own some day;)

Stole you mean.

I didn't steal it.

The original owners were dead and husked.

I just made sure a very pretty bike didn't rust.

As for fossil fuel, if you need something gas powered just talk to a Krogan or any number of smaller independent colonies. It's kinda hilarious, the stuff we consider shit-grade refining by 21st century standards is golden.

Hell, even ryncol will work in a pinch. Though you'll need to clean out the engine if you use it too much since it leaves some nasty residue.

Taleeze Collector of Harborlights
For the record, I am not recrating a fusel burning engine, it will get a micro drivecore inside the original housing. The plan is to increase the drivecore venting through the original exhaust pipes with additional turbulent bypass air. Figuring out the ratios and settings of the valves to get it sound good will be an interesting excercise. Thinking about it, I should look into sound pollution regulations on Illium and Nevos....

But that ryncol idea sounds interesting. I would expect problems with all the seals though.

Also, remember that the skyways are for both you and skycars, but don't expect skycars to be as polite.

I understand it won't be kitted for skyway flight...

Still, a proper crash suit and helmet is a very fine investment, so much cheaper than years of physio.

...or a funeral.

That's dark, I'm sorry...

Just don't do anything reckless, Taleeze.

Sarah, Temria, this is....

Thank's for your concerns, I guess. I will wear proper equipment, when it's necesary, okay?
But I feel so tempted to run the thing over this loooooong sandy beach on Nevos. What couldd happen there if I only wear beach gear? If I would be any decent with biotic bubbles I'd say I would deploy them but I am not. So yeah... helmet. Safety first.

Wear a helmet when you're riding the motorcycle.

I've lost friends who said 'Oh, hey, I'll just let the wind flow through my hair this once.'

Ah! Well it seems that not only are you going for vintage but you're taking the DIY track as well! I have to say that I feel somewhat jealous of this opportunity you're having! I haven't had much experience with such old models if you exclude countless of hours of gazing at museum pieces and a bit of reading. The parts you're using seem to be in remarkable condition, and from what I gather, the best ones available at their time, so I congratulate you on the find!

But, if what I know of motorcycle locomotion in the 21st and 22nd centuries, then I will strongly advise you to put those parts through re-atomization.

A mass effect field generator puts much more stress on the metal parts of a vehicle like a hoverbike. That's why you'll see the frames of the newer model being built using some of the new, ultraendurance grade alloys along with carbon fibre and nanotube reinforcements.

Reatomization is a time consuming and rather complex procedure, but there are no worries if you find the right unit. I suggest asking the person who is helping you. I am sure he must have, or at least know somebody who has access to such a module. They always come together with a standard fabrication unit in almost all asari workshops, as far as my knowledge goes at least.

The reatomizer will remove all oxidized particles from the part's metal, rearrange iron atoms in straighter, stable chains and reinforce any sizable cracks with carbon nanotubes. For extra safety I would suggest coating them with a sheet of carbon fibres as well but that would ruin the antique chrome aesthetics of the bike ;). But you should be good with just the reatomization and a few adjustments to the eezo core that you'll install.

You see, standard cores like these ones are equipped with a small sensory array that, with the help of the vehicle's computer, conducts continuous structural integrity checks of the entire bike. If the stress levels reach a critical point, the eezo core will automatically shut down to prevent the bike from, well, exploding into millions of pieces. That's one of the reasons that my accident happened actually so, yeah. Not a risk you'd be willing to take.

Oh, and before I forget, I suggest you'd replace structurally weak parts of the vehicles with fabricated replicas of the originals using modern alloys. Like bolts and junctions for example. I could provide you with a schematic from museum archives if that would be of any help.

All in all, I hope I've helped. I have to say I am very excited to see how this project of yours progresses and I would be happy to help if there's a need!

Walk on with hope in your heart, and you'll never walk alone.

Alright, alright, I get the message! I am not there yet by a long shot anyway.

I've spent all day at the track today and girl, was this exciting! I should have done this earlier! The team is really nice, its pretty small scale, no front runners yet but they have ambitions and fun. The practice sessions went so-so, Derek had a slight off track experience early in the second session and that cost us valuable time. It's 16th in the lineup, could have been better but is no catastrophe either. Race is tomorrow, anything can happen!

Yeah, so, when I got back home, I found this in my mail:

Aren't they beautiful!? I think I will have them in bed with me tonight!
(Okay, maybe not in bed - Skylar vetoed. But next to the bed)

Luscious. What are they, though?

Good luck with the race (if you read this beforehand), let us know how Team Taleeze goes! (Sorry I can't make it out the track to watch, I had a client booked in from ages ago for today. Bit of a race fan too, I was holding out a faint hope he'd have a private seating box at Helix to watch, but evidently he's not in the mood, sigh.)

So, race day is over. It was great fun although Derek got hold up in midfield. After a few good battles he managed twelfth overall. It is fascinating how fast positions change in these races, the battle groups are so tight, you can be anywhere from fifth to twentieth several times a lap. As tempting as these beasts area, I could never do what the pilots pull off there, it teaches you some respect.

It was great and I met a couple of sweet people, I'll do it again on occasion!

These my friend are near perfectly chromed core vents! It's double piping for an aircooling bypass.
