[Citadel] Tayseri Docking Collision Kills 12, Injures Hundreds

Tayseri Ward residents were rocked this morning as an explosion hit the starboard sections of levels 18 through 23, causing at least 12 deaths, hundreds of injuries, and an unestimated amount of damage.

According to C-SEC reports, the explosion was caused by a collision between two shipping frigates near the level 20 Tayseri loading dock.

"We're not sure what happened," Tayseri Port Authority Manager Gallifrex Manarviak told the press. "All we can say is that the explosion seems to have occurred through operator failure - all docking equipment and navigation software is currently working normally."

Despite this, the Citadel Docking Port Authority has temporarily closed down all major shipping and routing docks on Tayseri Ward, and citizen aircar and shuttle docking has been limited until the damage has been assessed.

C-SEC is currently ruling the event an "accident."

"We're still investigating the damaged area, but as far as we can tell, this appears to have been an accident," C-SEC investigator Rrurak Harkran told the press. "We'll release more information as it is revealed. Until that time, we advise all residents of the Citadel to be careful in traveling between the wards."

Harkran also advised citizens to use the Presidium rather than rely on air traffic, but that increased travel through the wards would caused delays.

At the current time, it is unknown how many more injured individuals or deaths are within the disaster radius. If you have missing friends or relatives who lived in the area, please call Citadel Search and Rescue at 345.32.912.345, C-SEC at 225.12.123.000, or the Green Star at 543.23.566.324

I wondered what that big bang I heard was. I seriously hope it was just an accident and not, say, SDU branching out to Citadel.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Is everyone on the Citadel so bored out of their skull with the monotony of their lives that an accident can't just be an accident with no evidence of possible foul play or conspiracy?

I'm pretty sure if the SDU had a hit out for someone and wanted to "Make it look like an accident" they wouldn't blow up a ship, since that's a tad conspicuous.

Well sooooorrry ms. pirate for tossing out speculations, maybe I should move into the Terminus where my mindset will properly adjust for wanton violence and death to pick the actual big fish from two shipping frigates colliding and exploding?

Actually I'm not sorry at all but I presume you could pick that up from my tone. Can't fucking comment anymore without getting called out for thinking that explosions must be because of terrorists, sheesh.

"Operator failure?" Someone was drinking, I imagine.

Having run a dockyard for quite a few years I can tell you it is more likely someone just feel asleep.

On the Move.

Or that.

Sorry.

I hate to say it, but having been up to my scalp in mid-range vessel protocols for the past couple of weeks, it sounds like corners were cut on safety systems. I know the Illian stuff I've been reading is our usual obsessive level of bureaucracy in action, but I can't believe the Citadel would leave that much to chance - even if somebody does fall asleep at the tiller, there are other safeguards which should've come into play. Ships colliding over a single point of failure is just... I know things are stretched over there, but that's really worrying from an overall operating point of view, quite aside from the immediate tragedy.

I was in the midst of a lunch-time visit to my apartment to check on my son and his nanny when the windows shattered because of this! I'm still shocked! I thought they had reforms with worker schedules to prevent operator errors like this!

Shut the fuck up, Isadore.

Hope heads roll when it comes out who screwed up so badly and that all the injured make it. Remember that disaster from before the war, when a freighter collided with the Alliance Tower? These sort of incidents hurt a lot of people, though at least less people died in this accident.

Can only talk briefly.

Assets and personnel from non-emergency medical agencies are being called in.

Extended shifts.

Anyone on the Citadel with scheduled doctor's appointments within the next few days should confirm with their offices in case of rescheduling.

There's a run on plasma so anyone healthy enough to donate please consider doing so.

Stay safe, all of you.

Eh, I thought it was funny.

But seriously though, if your dumb shit enough to use a system that allows for this level of fuck up, you deserve my jokes. That be the dumb shit corporation('s?) that will soon be sued out of business im talkin 'bout.

As a friend once said, Tayseri just can't catch a break...
You know I read somewhere that safety managers were pushing for more VI safeties, so that in case of sentient error the system would take charge, but the operators were against it because they said the the additional procedures and protocols would slow their usual work down. Others said they were just afraid of getting slowly replaced by VIs.

Wait, what?

The highest estimated injury count at 500 is 1/2600th of the total Citadel population.

How by the scrolls name did they go through the blood plasma reserve already?!

To be fair the reserves have always been low ever since the war... How are we not mass cloning that crap yet?

We still can't clone some types. I've got a colleague here who's type T-negative, she can't take transfusions from cloned stock - luckily it's not one of the problematic ones that can't take natural transfusions from a more common type either. My mother's a D-neutral (asari universal), she donates regularly.

(I'm a D-positive, in case anyone's curious.)

cloning is less practical than just walking into a blood bank and having someone drain you

people are always trying to find an excuse to get you to donate blood

Right off the top, I should clarify that the shortage I was referring to has been a long building problem. After the Sur'Kesh incident salarian plasma donations diverted to homeworld-facing relief efforts and never really recoverred, and historically, hanar plasma donation is generally low in relation to the amount needed on an individual basis (except those with rare types, which are actually a disproportionate number of donators.)

On top of that, though, we're also constrained by the Citadel's resource partitioning structure, wherein we are limited to using Tayseri resources in reaction to this incident unless it's deined fit to tap into the strategic reserve, which it currently isn't.

But I'm not going to start complaining about Tayseri ward and it's infrastructure woes, I need to sleep.

And here I am, just staring at my terminal screen, and trying to kill the entirety of the CDPA through the power of sheer hate.
