She hadn't put it on the official list, but Kayana knew she'd have to work a little harder to stay close to her alien friends in the coming year. Without CitadelTruth she'd lapsed back into mostly drell circles.

It sounded a little offensive when she thought it that way. Either way, she'd quietly resolved to spend more time at the Sniper's Touch and to spend more time with Trex. It was embarrassing that she hadn't seen the new apartment yet.

It was embarrassing that she hadn't known about Azure. Wait, wait, Rha! Sooner or later, his 'real' name would come to mind first.

She fluffed up the couch cushions and unpacked the takeout (they still did not own a set of dextro pots), waiting for the doorbell to ring.

Happy new year! Here's Trex.

In the spirit of the season, Trex has taken it upon herself to dress up. She's got a slim-fitting pair of tailored uniform pants in a cobalt blue colour, a striking red stripe running up each leg; the stripe has stylized "rough" edges so it looks more like a scratch. She's also got herself a matching uniform tunic, complete with high-waisted belt (looking very supportive), cuffed sleeves and even a name tag reading KHUTONAX which was probably borrowed/stolen from her adoptive father. Any official insignia were removed before the tunic was dyed its current colour, and then, just to make sure nobody mistakes her for Hierarchy, she's decorated the collar and pockets with little pins and ornaments.

Leave it to turians to figure out a way to look punk and also like enforcers of an oppressive regime all at the same time.

Trex is toting a casserole with a red lid, indicating the contents as levo cooking. As if Vindi would let her show up anywhere without food.

"Hi Kay!" she says, then tries to look over the drell's shoulder. Are any of her men in too?

"Hey Trex." Kayana took the casserole with one arm and hugged Trex around the shoulders with the other. She was wearing a black blazer, rolled up at the sleeves. Granted, she was wearing it over a t-shirt that read We Are The People We've Been Waiting For in day-glo dell script and skinny jeans but she was making it work. "Come in and make yourself comfortable."

"You look great. The tunic is obviously custom. Did you dye it to match the pants or did you do the whole thing?"

Neither of the men was in her immediate line of sight, but there were mens shoes in two different sizes by the door.

"I promised I'd bring you back 1. Not Pregnant, and 2. Not hungover-otherwise, we're in the clear."

Speaking about her husband and her boyfriend, you could hear them approaching from a mile away once a door slid opened.

"It just doesn't suit me," he stepped backwards from a room at the end of a corridor and into view of those inside the living room. The red drell, was wearing some white shorts, sandals and a dark blue short-sleeved and collared shirt, the buttons were undone to show a bare chest and more importantly throat.

"Sure it is," Itzen's voice was compared to Hadas' more bubbly and slightly higher. "It's perfect for when you're home." The blue drell stepped outside the room, wearing pretty much the same thing only the colors were different. "Of course if you want walk around nu–" It was that moment that Itzen noticed Trex, "Oh it's our guest. Hello there, I'm Itzen."

"Hey Trex," Hadas said turning halfway, "long time no see." the two made their way into the living room. Hadas was the larger, more muscled of the two. Itzen on the other hand was lithe, his pace was more energetic and chaotic compared to the more composed manner of Hadas. Only other drell, or those who knew where to look might have noticed that Hadas was infarct the younger of the two.

"Oh you're sundowners right?" the blue one said with a smile, "How's your Shaman doing?"

I assume I was allowed to participate if not just let me know and I'll get lost.

Hadas
"I did it myself!" Trex says proudly, returning the hug. She's never understood why a human guest at the range accused her of being "a proper little housewife." Turian soldiers, male and female, are taught to be self sufficient, and for all the differences between the Hierarchy and the Sundowners, the value of independence and being able to look after oneself remained the same for both groups. It's therefore natural to Trex that she know how to do some basic stitching and embroidery. The quality of the dye job is where she earned her bragging rights. She leans close to Kayana and admits, "Doc helped on the tailoring." Because credit ought to be given where credit is due, and a Sundowner field medic is always an expert at stitching.

Rather unfortunately, the last time Kay and Trex talked, Kay was threatening to kill Hadas for announcing publically that he had fathered a child with another woman. And Trex is still trying to wrap her mind around "husband and boyfriend at the same time". The idea is so far outside her experience that she is automatically suspicious of it.

As a result, in Trex's head, Hadas is a potential target and Itzen is an interloper.

So she bristles, curling her lip, and gives them her best impression of the Notras Khutonax glower.

It would be easy to mistake her response as that of a jealous would-be lover, though in actual fact, acting like a professional bodyguard is just how Sundowners show affection.

"Hi," she says, somewhat stiffly, and looks at Kayana for instructions on how to respond.

Welcome :)

Poor Trex, I think she's going to get her mind blown.

"Interesting take on the whole Shepard stripe. It looks really tight." She walked into the living room, putting the casserole down on the table. "Is there some Sundowner symbolism going on that I'm totally missing?"

Kayana looked up at the two men. "Oh, that shirt definitely suits you." She blushed and pressed her lips together. "I hope this bare-chested look stays in style forever."

Trex looked like she'd stepped in something foul. Kayana pushed on, deliberately smiling. She explained for Itzen. "Their 'Shaman' is also their top tech guy. Absolute genius, war injury, high-percentage cyborg."

"Is that quarian boy still around?"

Capice
"You sure? You don't think it's too colorful?" He asked before planting a kiss on her cheek, before noticing the glower, it was a bit distracting for a second but he turn back to Kay. "need any help with the food or something else?" he sneaks a peak back at Trex.

"Oh I know the Shaman," Itzen realized he might be inadvertently said to much so he redirected the conversation the best he could, "he posts on the same site you guys do." He spends a moment studying Trex, "Kay is right, the stripe looks awesome." The blue one was less intimidated by the glower but still noticed it.

"Hmm, I'm thinking you have questions about, how this works?" he asked in a more serious tone, "well ask away and we'll try to answer."

...Okay, so Kay is chatting like this is a social call.

Trex blinks. Actually this is a social call.

She drops the bristle and challenging stare, though she still hovers near Kayana, like a trained varren or something.

"Uh, thanks," she says awkwardly to Kay. "The stripe is...well, I designed the claw-scratch thing myself, the most important thing is the stripe not be a straight line. Because that's what the Hierarchy does. They're all about straight lines, on their uniforms and everywhere else." As she speaks she finds herself relaxing.

"Raelon? He's doing great. And if by "quarian boy" you mean Des, Spirits, Des is older than Raelon is. I guess he looks younger because you can't really see how old he is with the suit on?" Yeah, this is going to be okay. Isn't it? She looks at Kayana for confirmation.

"I've seen you on the boards but we've never really met, I'm Trex Khutonax. Kay's best friend," she adds to make everything clear.

Her mandibles flicker a little in embarrassment. Yes, she is curious "how this works", though it seems rude to just ask. "Um, I'm guessing this is a drell thing that everyone here is okay with, and....shit, is this how Hierarchy guys feel when they walk into the hall and see a whole bunch of families and old people and kids and basically a whole community living and working in the same big building? Like there's something weird that is definitely strange and maybe bad happening?"
Link Link Quote

One Shot Wonder
"No. Not too colourful. Keep dressing like that. Please." Kayana laughed, and then turned back to Trex.

"Is it like a heat decal or some kind of resist dye? Either way, it turned out great. And Raelon's not very old himself." She gave the younger girl a nudge. "Gossip."

"...Great. I'm the gossip." She tilted her head back and sighed, a little tired of explaining her particular brand of non-monogamy. "Drell culture is big and varied, it's like saying Turian. Plenty of drell think I'm weird and wrong. But group households and partible paternity existed in many drell tribes, it was often a response to like, rough conditions. It insures a tight network of bonds within the community and that children have more than just two recognized parents. It's something I grew up with, but these two didn't, 'cause drell communities are diverse."

"He." Hadas. "Is my husband, I have made a long series of oaths to him that I have not made to Itzen and that comes first, we all know that...and everyone is acting like I invented polyamory."
Link Link Quote

Capice
"well if you both say so," Hadas said with a shrug, resigning to be colorful.

"Also as much as it’s a cultural thing it's also a personal thing. There's a mentality you should have; you should understand that it's arrogant to demand another to just relay on you for everything. And where it's just selfish to demand they should just ignore any need that you can't fulfill, just because you're afraid that if someone else does it, they might love you less." He turned around to look at Kay.

"I love her, with body, mind and soul. we took those oaths seriously and we sealed them with blood, soul and flesh, but they were not arrogant in their prescripts, they did not demand blind suppression of self, commitment to duties and so on. It allows for others, for others do not lessen the value of our oaths, if anything they enhance them." It was his turn to look at Itzen, "and Itzen showed just how true that is..." there was smirk on his face.

"if only because I'm no longer getting dragged to clothes shopping. Apart from not being selfish you should be honest about what you feel, keeping your mouth shut just makes things worse and being a little bit adventurous doesn't hurt, you might surprised what you might like once you try it, but once again be honest, making clear what you like and don't like."

"I'm just of the opinion that more consensual sex is better than less." Itzen joked, "but seriously, it's all about having someone to share your life with and in that regard the more the merrier, you know?"
Link Link Quote

Hadas
Trex sighs. "Okay, okay, sorry I asked. Can someone take this casserole? Vindi made it for you guys." She holds it out like a peace offering.

She still has a lot of questions - like isn't it selfish to keep Itzen as the "second best" person in the relationship without any of the security and oaths that Hadas and Kay get - but she figures she'll ask those questions later, in private.

"I'm going to blame Omega for making me suspicious of anything outside my comfort zone and Vindi for grounding me for so damn long that I didn't even know my best friend had a new boyfriend. Oh, and since we're gossiping, Raelon was zero help in that regard, he's the one who asked me to help him protect his boyfriend and then gets all pissy when I take a shot."

She looks up at Kayana. "Did you know Nex is back?"

Kay takes the casserole and carries it to the dining room table.
"Thank you."

"Wait, so that's what what you did? Vindi wouldn't tell me. ...Everyone was alright though?"

"No, I didn't know he was back." She tried to keep her face neutral. But every boy Trex had shown an interest in since Nex's leaving the first time had been promoted on them not being a uneducated belligerent jobless father of two. "Like, back in the Range? How's that going?"

"Oh... Spill the beans!" Itzen leaned forward, he loved gossip.

"Vindi doesn't want it getting around that I fired a weapon on the Citadel. You know, outside the range."

Her eyes slide to Hadas and Itzen.

"Actually I guess I don't really want that getting around either because I don't want to go to jail. Or juvie or wherever under agers go when they break too many big laws."

She folds her arms.

"Shit, the more I think about it, I'm starting to be kind of glad I missed..."
Link Link Quote

One Shot Wonder
"Your sister-as much pull as she has-would not have been able to save you if you'd killed the person. Was it a quarian? They go down." She let out a long whistling sigh. "You hardly ever miss, the Spirits saved your ass."

She opened a cupboard, pulling out some glassess. "Can I get you something?"
Link Link Quote

Capice
"Yes, you were very lucky with that miss," Hadas folded his arms, "prison isn't a good place to grow-up or they might send you to a work camp, being a turian and all. They don't let able bodies to just sit around at the best of times, so with so much reconstruction work that still has to be done."

"Lighten up you guys, nothing bad happened, thank the Enkindlers for that, and she has been punished, we shouldn't be dwelling on the bad stuff, it's the human new year, a time of new beginnings." The blue one smiled, the red one wasn't so convinced.
Link Link Quote

Hadas
"Only if Breaker and Tango didn't make the body vanish in t...you know what, never mind." Because that was always another option. Hit the target, and get Tango and Breaker to play cleaning crew. And knowing stuff like that was totally worse than admitting to firing a weapon on the Citadel.

She's actually starting to think she likes Itzen. "Hey, I blame Omega. I think I remember reading on the boards that you grew up there too, didn't you?" Her talons flash a sign. "End of the Line 'till the end of our lives, yeah?" Space station represent.

She's also starting to think that Kay was kidding about wanting to kill Hadas, but she's still just a little wary of him. She doesn't like the way he's talking to her.

"Nex is...not doing so great. The Reaper War and the truce kind of upended everything he thought his life would be and he's having a hard time adjusting." She shoves back in the chair, stretching out her legs. "I'm still trying to decide if I want the Hierarchy to give me flight lessons or whether I should...I don't know. I don't want to work at the range, really, but I also don't want to go to school if I don't know what for. It's a waste of money to take a program and find out I hate it."

She bites her lip. "Secretariat says I should try to qualify for C-Sec but I'd need to do the Hierarchy 15 years thing and being a cop would be way weird."

Hey, there. Just a friendly reminder: this thread is what's called a 'closed thread', this means that this is a thread that is generally invitation only. Usually if a thread doesn't specify whether it is or isn't, the safest assumption is that it is a closed thread. That said, if you see an 'open thread', that means that you're entirely free to join without asking permission or anything like that. I really hate to overbear on you like this, but it's just a quick distinction to make in the future. I didn't delete the content of the post itself since it was fairly substantial, but in the interest of keeping this thread easy to read, I've put it down here with the OOC comment. Thanks.

Lieutenant Saren Actius stood up from his extranet terminal and sighed. He cracked his neck and grabbed his Turian-manufactured pistol. Of course, It wasn't the only thing he had with him. Among other things, He held a Hahne-Kedar Assault rifle, and a M-98 Widow sniper rifle. A file had just come across his desk and he wanted to get some investigation in before he headed back to his apartment. "LT! C'mere for a sec." The quick, clipped tone of his Chief came from his office, and he turned to head there, taking a seat. "You know, it was nice work on that Red Sand drug bust, but now there's a new case. The Sniper's Touch. Heard of it?" Saren shook his head, and cracked his fingers. The Turian had a long, and detailed military history, with a deep sense of loyalty. If his chief called him in on this, it must've been big. Normally, the men and women of this precinct were given limited autonomy with their cases, but sometimes the Chief would step in on big cases. This happened to be one of them.

The Chief sat back and regarded his Officer with an appraising eye. At 6'5, he made an imposing figure, and with his avian features and black clan markings, few dared to cross him. The Salarian sat up again, and spoke quickly. "We have intel that there may have been two people who shot the Vice-Primarch, and that one may be hiding out there. It's unconfirmed, and a rumor at best, but with this kind of political fallout, it's best if we just investigate first and sort out the politics later."
Saren cocked his head to the right, already thinking of potential leads. "I'll get it done, sir."

Is it ok if I join? I'll figure out how to delete my post if I can't.

"Since you didn't correct me, remember that the Quarians are as clannish as you Sundowners." She poured herself a drink, then flopped down in her own chair.

"You're tempted to sign up, learn what you think you need to, and run, aren't you?" She smirked, inspecting her drink. "Take it from someone who tried it-don't. You have no idea how much you can shoot yourself in the foot. This is why they won't let me take Naban. And I couldn't be a cop if I wanted to."

"Yeah, being called a deserted isn't something you want, remember what they did with those who did back on Omega?"

"You know, I'm the only one of you guys that hasn't been on that station. Yet another thing to thank the gods for." Hadas added with a shrug.

"Can't you get like civilian lessons? I mean those can't cost too much right? The Wings of Tayseri gave them for free, granted that was before the war but still."

"Well you both know Harrad, he was big about the Wings so you could ask the guy for lessons or something? No need to make annoy the Hierarchy if you don't have to."
