Trex is really not looking forward to explaining to Notras why Vindi had to come to school and pick her up from the principal's office.
Trex seethes when she remembers the look the principal gave Vindi. She knows what he saw: a short young turian, not that much older than Trex, easily mistaken for a student in that pink glittery hoodie she wears. A girl too young to earn a Hierarchy discharge, caring for a child almost old enough to be in boot. It makes Trex feel sick. She'd rather they look at Vindi the way the principal's secretary had; he'd recoiled, and paled, because he clearly knew what Vindi's chieftain's tattoos and combat pants meant, or perhaps he'd smelled the aroma of cordite that always clung to her. He'd known to respect a Sundowner. She doesn't want the Principal's fucking pity. And now Vindi is off to some ward meeting in her role as Mayor and Trex is grounded, stuck in the range, and now she stands in front of Notras' door and tries to figure out how to explain why she's here instead of in school, and she finds herself wishing that this was Omega: however painful a beating is, at least it's over with quickly. She's not no idea what to expect here. |
