... I might just ask a few questions.

So we Fools got new orders. The alliance has arranged transport for us with the New Hansa to Switzerland where we will aid the 53rd marines to secure the remains of the CERN hq and if that goes well the rest of the LHC.
We haven't had a full briefing yet on the situation down there, but from few reports from the continent that made it to the UK I know that the reapers fucked that area hard for little military gain. Not sure what SATAE tries to find down there, but I have the feeling won't be just a sweep-and-clear op if mechs are brought in.
Bloody hell, I wish Sergeant Gaillard or Lt. Machielski were still here.

Anyhow, it looks like the Alliance might get around to finally assaining a new ell-tee to us, atleast for this op.
So, do alliance LTs get trained in mech tactics?
Can I trust them enough to put one of them on my vacant co-pilot seat (which so far has been manned by the VI) without reminding him her not to touch anything?

And since we are likely to run infantry support loud-out, does anyone know if the alliance HUD target designators are compatible with EU smart mortars? Without that the smart mortar rounds are just... mortar rounds.

Mr_Sandman
Awwww someone wants my input? Now I just feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Oh you poor baby. Look just pack some dirt in your mouth of whatever it is you normally do, sacrifice a few beating hearts, shag some cows, I don't judge caveman. And

oh...that wasn't part of the question. My bad.
So, do alliance LTs get trained in mech tactics?
Nope. Nobody in the SA gets trained in piloting heavy mecha, or working with them. Too slow, too vulnerable, and nooooot a great fit for a doctrine that relies on constant mobility and pressure. So there's already no real interest in it. And they don't really have the resources (they'd basically have to build the infrastructure from the ground up) or any incentive to invest in producing and maintaining a dedicated corps of anything on the order of one of my Crusaders.

Odds are they're going to either defer to whatever NCO's you've still got (hah!) or just deploy you like they would their medium armour. M-080's and co. Prooooobably the latter, especially since they're mobilizing you in conjunction with units from the SAMC. But hey, on the plus side, you'll have Mantises and Bengals waiting in the wings.
Can I trust them enough to put one of them on my vacant co-pilot seat (which so far has been manned by the VI) without reminding him her not to touch anything?
Butterbars are butterbars but even they aren't going to try and grab the reins of a vehicle they've got literally no experience piloting. Don't be a tit about it and they won't give you a hard time, pretty simple.

And since we are likely to run infantry support loud-out, does anyone know if the alliance HUD target designators are compatible with EU smart mortars? Without that the smart mortar rounds are just... mortar rounds.
I...would think? Unless you're running off Sumerian tablets or something that was coded on entirely imaginary numbers? Not exactly my forte but I would imagine it'd need a software patch at most.

Capt.Wagstaff Don't mess with my sister.
Nikolai is right, we don't train any officers, any soldiers for that matter, in piloting mechs. Simply put, they are large, slow, and vulnerable, moreso that your standard tank.
Also, Alliance target designators are designed to be compatible with any human artillery, large or small. They can also be linked to the fire control of any Alliance warship that has a Mass Accelerator.

And if you think Europe took a pounding, you should see North America. Half of it's still radioactive from the nukes the Reapers took out while they were still in the silos.

So most of this has been answered but I'll put in my two cents.

Does Eufor not care for Opsec? Because now whoever might be wanting to do you harm knows exactly what units are going to be where.

Nope. We get trained how to counter and destroy mechs though. Which uh, probably isn't too helpful.

Yes, they are. We do use smart mortars ourselves as indirect fire support at the platoon and company level. Just get the techs to do some software patches because we use a different mortar.

I beg your pardon, sir? Are you to good for us mud dwellers?
doctrine that relies on constant mobility and pressure.
Not wanting to offend you sir, but mobility and pressure is what we do, and oh... you are talking doctrine?
The EUFor has operated on a "establish strongpoint and then hammer everything from there that dares to oppose" doctrine. But I don't know squat about space warfare so I guess that doesn't translate to well.
Anyhow before the war we would usually deploy alongside two or three tank platoons, providing cover at the flanks and suppressing enemy close air and movement. Well, in theory. We ended up doing plenty of convoy duty in the DMZs, teaching the insurgents the meaning of fear. If I am not mistaken that is why they added smart mortars as a loud-out option, so we can be a better support for the infantry.
Odds are they're going to either defer to whatever NCO's you've still got (hah!)...
Haven't seen many around, there are grunts like me in commmand position all over the place and the alliance hasn't enough to spare.
But hey, on the plus side, you'll have Mantises and Bengals waiting in the wings.
That will be a nice change of pace. You seem to be competent when it comes to warfare, so you can imagine the pains we had of keeping our mechs in working order and out of the reaper's sight. We had the advantage that the reapers didn't employ anything resembling an MBT but tverstay your welcome and you get torn to ribbons, by brutes, dropped by harvesters, directly on top of us.
Don't be a tit about it and they won't give you a hard time, pretty simple.
I'll keep it in mind and see to it that my men will too.

I'll see if I can in contact with any tech experts the 53rd has. It isn't like we have to incorporate alien assets. In the worst case I'll just have the boys and girl load up dumb-fire missile batteries into their shoulder pods. You can never go wrong with them.

Half of it's still radioactive from the nukes the Reapers took out while they were still in the silos.
I don't know where you were educated, but you aren't improving my opinion about the alliance officer's academy. Nukes do not explode when they get damaged, RL ain't a Call of Honor video game. They might leak radioactive material into the enviroment, but not enough to irradiate entire country sides... I think.
Does Eufor not care for Opsec?
I would say we do, but it seems the alliance has an even tighter standard. Not yet entirely used to having to think of enemies with extranet access (although I doubt that has been restored to the place we are going to).

Matty, I'm well aware of how nukes work. The thing most people don't realise is that when the fleets were mobilising to confront the Reapers, the missiles were placed on high alert, and were carrying armed warheads. My command at the time barely managed to get out, but I can tell you that armed nukes do not like being shot with directed beams of liquid metal. Especialy if some of them just launched.

We are better than you muddies :)
