THESSIA, CDR:

Another 17 successful raids on Element Zero refineries and transports struck Thessia today, as the violent wave of piracy that has persisted since the opening of the Parnitha relay continues to strike fear in the galactic reconstruction effort. This brings up the total number of raids up to 845 this year, a staggering 2000% increase from similar reported incidents two years ago. Some analysts project that the lost eezo could amount for up to 5% of all of Thessian eezo exports.

When approached about the increase in piracy, Asari naval custom spokeswoman Yressa Merivi noted that: We're dealing with a multitude of pirate groups, both local and external in origin that are taking advantage of the influx of foreign workers, the tripled eezo refinery and export operations and the navy's current inability to cover all territories. While we are able to intercept the majority of the smaller raids that operate out of civilian transports, we've had reports of military grade vessels striking refineries and transports as well.

The Citadel council and the Asari republics have been in talks for weeks to address the crisis faced by the still recovering Asari navy. Whether or not an agreement is being reached is unknown but several high level Alliance, Hierarchy and Salarian diplomats have already issued statements of support to the initiative.

The supply of eezo is widely regarded as the biggest bottleneck on galactic recovery operations after the reaper wars. Thessia is is the biggest producer of eezo in the known galaxy, and provides for a significant number of reconstruction projects.

Great. Criminals looking to make a quick buck rather then help society. This is just brilliant.

Okay, I really don't know what to say to this.

How about "pirates are assholes that will ruin us all"?

Ohhhh crap.... Think this is what the boss was talking about.....

Concerned: This will likely prove a problem. Even a minor depletion in eezo supply will hinder reconstruction efforts

Plainly: I hope the Republics and Citadel Governments are able to come to some kind of accord.

IF there was one thing that Reapers could have done, it would be starting the whole reaping with pirates instead of us! But nooo, they had to hit the most developed nations first.

Yeah, makes me wince just thinking about it.

Plainly: I hope the Republics and Citadel Governments are able to come to some kind of accord.

In this political climate? That will take a long time...

Maybe not. If there is one thing to kick everyone into working together, its something we all need. And everybody needs Element Zero

Vohkaidin
And all the different governments are probably hogging it and squirreling it away.

I just hope salvaging will be worth the effort, and that we won't get gouged on the price like we did on Benning.

I don't reckon it'll be to hampered by the political climate. Thessia has eezo, which everyone wants. It's in their interests to deal with the piracy and keep selling eezo, just as its in the interest of other governments to help Thessia deal with the pirate attacks so their supply of eezo remains.

To be fair, they are probably intending on selling it so it will be helping someone rebuild.

Still sucks, but hey it's not like it's just 5% of the eezo being destroyed, it's just going to black markets rather than the regular channels. So it's not great but it's not the end of the galaxy.

It will be for some people. Fuckers who took the eezo know how valuable it is. They'll go somewhere where people need it, bad, and charge them for every decicred they have.

Pisses me off. A refinery near my cousin's home got hit, and we need the revenue the eezo brings in to help reconstruction.

Fuckin pirates.

Good to know things never change.

Well granted, piracy raids on a Council homeworld is kind of something to pause at.

If they're willing to pay all the money they have then that's the only source of the stuff they have. When it comes to a question of having credits or eezo, eezo may win out. If they could get it at a lower price legit the buyers would. So it's not the black market buyers who get screwed, they get eezo that would have been impossible to otherwise get, it's the people who owned the eezo who are in trouble. Of course this is bad for production because why produce more if it's all going to get stolen. But just remember, buyers are happy to get what they can, it's sellers who we need to feel sorry for.

You're not taking into account the whole picture. They spend all they can for eezo, what do they have to spare for food, medicine, and other supplies? Colonies in the Terminus, far away from possible support and in possibly hostile territory, are at the most to risk from this.

This one is highly distressed to hear of such activities. Discordant voices raised against the reef are distasteful at any time, but especially so as these ones seek to recover from the Darkening. This one wonders, though, if the use of the word "wave" is intended to evoke imagery of the ocean? This one is given to understand that the asari retain some degree of connection to the waters.

This one hopes that these ones' vessel will not attract pirates.
