Shaifel to Acquire Ocatis

Medical corporation Shaifel has announced today that it would agree to acquire Ocatis Pharmaceutical for 3.8 billion credits. It also announced that it would be opening new production facilities on Jaeto, Palaven and Taetrus for the production of tools required to combat chronic element zero toxicity. Ocatis, which has been facing a crisis of supply since imports from the Locrina Relay shut down, faced bankruptcy until Shaifel interceded.

Shaifel Chief Executive Officer Zeewic Taxil is seeking to capitalize on the boom in demand for eezo exposure treatment caused by downed ships in the face of the Reaper War by snapping up a company the means but no resources to manufacture its goods. Meanwhile, Ocatis plans to cuts costs, focus departmental workforces and trim prices to fend off rivals such as Neopcore and Sirta.

Shaifel has performed particularly well in the past year, being one of the first companies to rebound since the Crucible Crash of 2187.

Oh wow. This is really good news.

It is a growing market.
One company witht he means, one with the technology. A good match and while some people may get laid off due to merging, but other will be in jobs building and working within the new facilities.

Interesting. Rumor mill had it that Ocatis hadn't made a decision yet, smart money was on a merger with another, smaller company not Shaifel buying the whole thing (which is pretty damn ambitious really, especially in this economic climate).

In any case, going to be fascinating watching how this plays out. Chronic element zero toxicity is big money right now and probably will be for at least the next couple years but, and this is just me personally, I don't think it's much more than a bubble. Eventually the number of new cases is going to sharply decline and at that point the pool of targeted consumers probably isn't going to do anything but diminish.

Unless Shaifel feels like blowing up a cruiser over a homeworld every now and then, in a decade or so Ocatis is probably going to be sucked dry and abandoned.

Blast, they went with Jaeto after all? There was what seemed like a strong rumour a couple of weeks ago that Illium was in the running for those facilities - had a couple of promising chats that might have led, had the move happened, to us getting the contract for in-run calibration hardware for their veriax-model manufacturing line. Small job compared to the scale Shaifel operates on, but for a company our size, it would've been a nice coup.
