Showing off My New Pet

A couple of months ago I asked this forum for pet advice. Most of your suggestions were unhelpful (as is to expected of CDN) but a few of you made some actual good suggestions. But I made my choice. And after weeks of searching for a breeder (and even more time spent filling out forms) I finally managed to get her on the Citadel.



Her name is Blika (old Khelish for "little friend") and she is a choriick fancy.

Given who the owner is, I pity that poor creature.

Aww! It's so cute! That is the cuddliest bug I've ever seen.

Unlike you people I actually know how to care for living things.


She is very cuddly. She has a bit of a nipping problem (which I have been trying to remedy) though.

Why do you keep stalking her? Aren't you supposed to be ignoring her instead of stalking her? I thought that was the whole point of exiling the bitch.

I still say you should have gotten a chezkes, bug lady. But, well, what the fuck do I know about giant alien insects that aren't those grenade firing ones the reapers used?

Don't really know much about those either actually.

It looks like an effing spider. How can you- No, I know the separation of species can make things difficult to empathize with each other's ideas on what is pleasing to the eye, but how can anyone find something like this adorable?

And why exactly are you doing this, Jeral? Forgive me for my suspicion, but people never give anything away for free. There is always a catch.

And I am just suspicious of meeting anyone off the extranet.

I hear this a lot and it is very irritating. First, she is completely harmless. Some of the bigger choriicks can be dangerous. But she is so small (and timid, I have almost tripped over her a few times because she loves to hide under my robes) that she can't harm anything or anyone.

Second, she isn't venomous. And outside of the nipping problem (which is a sign of affection and mostly focused on me) she never bites.

Thirdly, of course she is adorable. She has a beautiful black carapace covered with a nice and pretty white coat of fur that makes her very distinct. And makes the most beautiful clicking when you pet her.

Please educate yourself on choriicks [[here] next time before you start badmouthing them.

Eh... The reason you hear it a lot is because the thing does look a bit like a bloody spider... and humans are predisposed to find spiders and other such animals creepy. It's a biological thing coming from something in evolution...

Now I can appreciate that it is a cute animal, but some people are genuinely arachnophobic and would probably be triggered by that.

...I'm sorry, but all I see is an arachnidish thing thats roughly the size of my daughter. I'm fairly certain I'd panic and try to kill it if I saw anything like it near her or me...and I have really bad experiences with other creepy crawly things like that.

The link you posted is just giving me an error message, so I'll just ask: What do you feed that thing? And how big can it get before it starts going for peoples faces.

And please, don't give me shit about my phobias. I'm sure that the race of Chorlicks won't suffer if one person on the extranet points out how creepy they are.

Aw, she's so cute! I'm sure you already know this, but be sure to keep her exercised - while I was on my travels I shared a flat for a while with a choriick owner, and I think he got a bit used to me keeping the little guy entertained while he (the owner) was out pulling extra shifts to save up for a deposit. After he got a place and I moved to another planet, he told me he'd forgotten the attention Sanka needed, and after a few days he ate the kaffe table.

Gah, that's a spider, there is such a difference. I... ugh, that's going to stay with me all day. (I'm actually really glad I've never met a member of a sapient species who's properly arachnoid, I'd feel awful for reacting the way I do. Can't help it.)

There not really fangs, more like pincers. As long as you don't let the thing tear constantly at a enviro suit, it's not going to be getting through something as tear resistant as what the quarians where.

And, Pariah, in regards to your questions, I'm giving it to you because:

1. I've got some old stuff that I don't use for Joe anymore (he outgrew it) that would likely be useful for you. So you need it, I don't.

2. You are one of the few people I kow who like choriicks, and since that is awesome, I felt like celebrating and getting your little gal some useful stuff.

3. Why not?

I know you don't know me, so if you'd rather I'll just send the stuff to your apartment or whatever

It is a cute little animal, a clever and affectionate one too.

I think I'll pass on getting one myself, but congratulations on getting yourself a pet. ...that you'll scare half of the Citadel to death with, it seems.

She eats meat (choriicks are the primary predators on their homeworld) but I feed her food that is specially made for fancies that helps keep her fur and carapace nice and vibrant looking. As for size, she is not getting much bigger than she already is and she is completely harmless.

And again, she is completely harmless.


Of that I am aware. I've got a fairly strict schedule with her that involves a nice walk and some playtime at one of the many parks on the Citadel.

And some nice brightly colored toys so she doesn't try to get into my wardrobe again.
