UNAWM Reopens with New Reaper War Exhibit

Tony Rogers, Alliance News Network

In a solemn, high-attendance ceremony, the United North American War Museum celebrated its official reopening with a new, permanent exhibit about the Reaper War. This new exhibit includes the Hall of the Fallen, where the flags of military units that fell to the Reapers are on display. It also incorporates “Stories from the Front,” an interactive installation that features interviews with Reaper War Veterans from various theaters of the Reaper War. Various political dignitaries and military officers from across Citadel Space were present for the ceremony.

“This is a bit more personal than most of our other exhibits.” said UNAWM Curator William Pronger during the ceremony, “After all, we experienced this war right on our doorstep.”

All of us on Earth are Reaper war vets now.
Hell, most of the galaxy's people are vets. Even Quarians and salarians, before anyone says I'm trying to suggest something here.
Must visit the monuement in London someday.

Current Location: Illium. At least it's warm

I suppose the only people who wouldn't count are the Raloi. What with the whole going dark for the whole war. Not like anyone can blame them.

No offence Nahiji, I know you're the exception.

I'm not really sure I should go. I was here on Earth during the big final battle just hoping I wouldn't die. I feel like its a bit too soon to visit and dig up those memories.

You know, I feel guilty at times. Like I should've been on the ground instead of flying about in my ship offering fire support to anyone nearby as we tried to avoid drone patrols and running into a dreadnaught that would've incinerated us in an instant. I mean all things considered I was slightly safer than the people below me.

I just guess, maybe I don't really belong there. Hell barely even consider myself a veteran to be honest. I was just stuck there trying to survive.

There's a difference between a 'survivor' and a 'veteran'.

Huh, we're ahead of the news for once.

Colossal waste of resources better used elsewhere, colonials freezing to death, starvation, charity ads with sad music and so on and so on.

This one wonders if the cost is really as much as people are making it out to be. If it was of the gambling persuasion, it would wager that the amount Systems Alliance Transitional Administration on Earth used to fund the reopening was comparitively small compared to the amount spent on what TechOptryx cites as other areas more deserving of funding.

Let me be more accurate, I was part of the Quarian fleet during the retaking of Earth. I was assigned to provide close fire support for groups on the ground. Alot of patrol ships were. I don't feel like Veteran, because I honestly feel like I accomplished much other than keeping me and my crew alive.

I hope I didn't confuse everyone and make them assume I wasn't involved in a military sense. I just don't feel comfortable with the label of veteran. I suppose survivor does seem to make me comfortable... slightly. Not sure how I feel about that either all things considered.

No matter how many times you deny it, you're still not a veteran.

I'm a survivor and a veteran.

Mind boggling, isn't it?

The fuck does that have to do with anything?

Don't sweat it VikSajee. The Blue Balls just can't handle a quarian civilian being at par and probably above them in military achievements.

Well when we got militarized during our little Geth Revenge escapade we all kinda got turned into soldiers. Even the civilian ships if you want to be accurate. Plus the Patrol Fleet acted as somewhat of a police, internal protection service and forward scouting party. We were only soldiers in the loosest sense.

In any case it doesn't bother me. I know what I did and what I didn't do during that war. It was hardly anything glorious or impressive in my mind, but thats just how it is. If I ever have a child who asks me what I did, I'll probably just say I offered fire support for humans on Earth and leave out the other details.

Its difficult to explain why I feel that way. Suffice to say I lost a lot of friends and a part of myself with them. Another reason I ressigned as Captain of the Kolosya when the fighting stopped. Too many memories, too few of them good ones.

But thanks for the words of support, Talonz, in either case.

A museum's purpose is to preserve history - no matter how recent. There's no time like the present to preserve the artifacts.

Personally, I'm not sure I'm ready for it - and a lot of others may not be, either.

Well, I take that back - Captain Reynard will want to. She actually admitted to me last week that she missed the rush of our most-recent near-death experience.

It's by doing whatever that we become whomever.

A dissective unit on indoctrinated individuals would be most intriguing in an exhibit such as this.

I have a strange feeling you won't find such a museum display in Council Space for quite some time.

I agree with the salarian, those who were legitimately evil and indotrinated deserve to fade into obscurity - let their actions be known but their identity fade. It's like when a media outlet reports on a shooting but turns the shooter into some kind of sick anti-hero. Those who were simply victims or died but someone has a grudge against them even after death, well, let 'em rest. If you can't get peace in death even than where the fuck can you?

The concept I brought up is not one of morality, but of scientific observation. If you wish to engage in a discussion on the moral adversity facing those were indoctrinated / implanted willingly and those that were not, by all means, proceed, but that was not my initial intent.

Observation produced by the subjects is the source of all knowledge. We can only learn by studying the effects of the Reapers and Cerberus on the victims of the war.

And while such research is valuable, it doesn't take place in a museum.
