Former Hegemony Officials found in Mass Grave
Khar’shan News Network AR-MAZD - In a gruesome discovery, the remains of seven batarian men and women were found in a mass grave, less than six kilometers away from the trade capital of Ar-Mazd yesterday. While analysts are still working to identify all the bodies, Ascendancy officials have confirmed that at least three of the bodies belonged to agents of the former Hegemony. Details are still unclear, but decomposition was allegedly not advanced enough for the deaths to have occurred more than just several months ago, and cause of death appears to have been execution with a mass-accelerated weapon, with eyes removed in the process. Critics of the new government were quick to accused the Ascendancy of being behind the matter, though many remain unconvinced. “While some members of the Ascendancy are permitted through special ritual to use mass effect technology, they scorn it,” one sociologist claimed. “They’re more likely to execute with more esoteric methods - hanging, electrocution, euthanasia. Eyes would never be removed, intentionally, as is the case here; doing so would go against sacred doctrines.” The grave was discovered as part of the reconstruction effort. Khar'shan News Network?
You know, I can't help but be reminded of that old satire from Khar'shan Network News, about there always being mass graves? It was a running gag of theirs, basically. It's disturbing to be reminded that this sort of thing actually does happen in batarian space. Is this like the serious version of KNN? Er, the other KNN, with the Ns the other way round? Phraag is not pronounced "frog". It's not funny. I'm serious. |

So mass graves are truly that ... common within the ... Hegemony? How ... disturbing. One would think such ... activity would have ceased seeing after the decimation of their ... population by the reapers.

Wow. Somebody really hated them if they denied them the chance to gaze upon their selected destination and converse during the Passage. Not that I believe any of that stuff, but that's some seriously old school spiritual epithet shit. We survived our rage. We survived uplifting. We survived the Rachni. We survived the Rebellions. I know, right? I honestly never thought a news article that ended in "Mass Grave" would put such a spring in my step. But when the Hegemony's involved that's just fine by me.Bitterskin wrote:You know, I can't help but be reminded of that old satire from Khar'shan Network News, about there always being mass graves? Why does that name sound so familiar? Didn't they do that phony news vid where Comm. Shepard quit and became a stripper? And they treated it like it was a dead serious artistic statement or something? I remember someone sending me link to that a long time ago but I can't remember if that was them, specifically. Unless you are being sarcastic human, I am glad to see you find the murder of several of my people so amusing. This is going to turn into another "the Reapers should come back and kill all the batarians" isn't it? Seven people were executed and had their bodies defiled. I would imagine that basic empathy would keep people from going "WHOOO DEAD BLINKS" for at least the first page for so. Granted two of the people doing so are a quarian exile and a former Cerberus agent. So I suppose that should inform the others what level they're sinking to. I wouldn't waste any tears. The Hegemony was run by men for whom "corruption" was basically just another perk of the job. If they were civilians, or soldiers, then yeah, maybe I could muster up some righteous indignation. But this just sounds like the kyrpak coming home to roost. These guys must've done something to warrant that kind of attention.

If these were the bodies of, for example, slaves. Then maybe I would actually care. But that isn't the care. They were members of a corrupt, oppressive government and deserved far worse than what they got. But feel free to continue on with the self-righteousness. |

But feel free to continue on with the self-righteousness. Exactly. While I doubt I would shed tears for any mass batarian grave, even I wouldn't cheer for the death of civilians. But these people were Hegemony Agents, and I would be very surprised if this was the first mass grave they had seen. Well, maybe "seen" is the wrong word, given their current lack of eyes. Still, good job whoever to whomever did this. |

...Is what I was getting at. I've got absolutely no problem with Batarians and I'm sure as hell not one of those "Let the reapers come back and finish them off" types. If they were civilians or slaves or hell, even criminals or something then yeah I'd be very sympathetic because nobody would deserve what happened to them. But they were hegemony. And the hegemony has, let's be honest, done some terrible things and generally been rather troublesome to put it very mildly. I'll admit I was insensitive but I'm afraid I won't be shedding any tears over their deaths, sorry.Mr_Sandman wrote:I shall lower my standards and increase my alcohol intake accordingly.

If I might point out?
There is a bit of wiggle room between "bawling my eyes out and writing emotional poetry" and "paving their graves into a dancefloor". Like virtually every other emotionally well adjusted and reasoning being in the galaxy I fall somewhere between the two. In practice this translates to: I am not overly mourning their lost but neither am I cheering the fact that their bodies were horribly mutilated. Because, unlike some, I'm not a sick enough fuck that such news gives me a "spring in my step". That's the thing about basic empathy it doesn't just apply to people you like. But, by all means, continue on with the logical fallacies if that's what makes you feel better. One must therefore be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves. -Niccolo Machiavelli |
