An Explanation/Semi-Apology

Today, at approximately 2-3 AM CST, the chat was engaged in a discussion about, among other things, identity politics, which ended in ad hominem and people leaving the chat. While I am not going to engage in any mea culpa about my opinions, which I still view as fundamentally correct and vindicated by the discussion, no matter how unpopular they may be, other chat members had problems with my tone, which apparently came across as condescending.

While no condescension was intended, further self-reflection led me to the conclusion that there may indeed have been a real or perceived problem with tonality if several people picked up on it. Therefore, I invite these individuals to talk to me in chat either publicly or privately so that we may engage in dialogue regarding ways in which I might better phrase my arguments without setting people off. Above all else, my point in these kinds of discussions is to understand, explore other viewpoints, and rebut anything that I view as inconsistent reasoning, not to character assassinate (I save this for the politicians and talking heads) or piss people off. If I go "so your viewpoint is x?" I'm not trying to strawman your argument, I'm trying to recrystallize it in order to make it clearer to myself and others.

If you don't want to talk, that's fine. I don't want to pressure people. However, I'm not going to stop talking about certain topics and/or espousing certain opinions just because they may be controversial and/or run afoul of certain physical/mental/emotional/spiritual sensibilities, especially without any constructive feedback as to how such discussion may be improved.
