Isn't it a little stupid to kill your clients? You'd reckon an ongoing gang war would be good for these guys.

I don't see the problem.

The two gang leaders got out fine.

Their respective goons didn't have the evac coverage, just the leaders if I'm reading into it correctly.

But the leaders got out just fine, so mission completed, did exactly what they were paid for, right?

Because I'm pretty sure we covered the 'not crazy' part.

Dude. I'm not reposting the entire article. But c'mon, even you (in your crazy little head) has to think that maybe wiping out two gangs (one of which killed moxies apparently) just to save their two leaders was a bit over the top

Though I admire you for such dedication to duty, sir. Even if it is kinda crazy!

I dunno why you guys are pissing and moaning so much at this guy.

Because sooner or later he's gonna have to deal with Omega's insurance companies, and those guys are real assholes.

Look. Those mercenary knuckle-draggers may be a few sticks short of a bundle, but even they can parse that is probably not worth their while to hold a medevac service in retainer that runs the risk of utterly annihilating their entire operation every time it comes in for a pick-up.

Only a student of the Thanatos School of Economics would think otherwise.

Vigilance Ever vigilant, for they are watching.
Oh, hey, we made the news. Awesome.

In all fairness, it wasn't the mercs themselves who had the contract - it's in the T&Cs.

That recruitment thread a while backIf you happen to be injured and need help, then we evac you specifically. Not your buddies who neglected to get a contract with us.

[Translation error: did you mean 'support pillars'?] to the guys who handled this one, though. Never would've thought of that.

C-Sec mail [here], personal [here], FEMES [here]. Is that all? Can I go?

It's not crazy to be thorough.

Shit, forgot about that.

I believe we're covered on that front, see my subordinate's post above this one.

+50 for quickly, effectively and memorably dealing with the immediate situation as it developed.

-25 for failing to adequately capitalize on the Public Relations opportunity.

-150 for establishing a precedent you are now obligated to fulfill and which may ultimately prove damaging in the long run as potential customers become wary of extreme measures the company is willing to employ, third parties become decidedly miffed at the resulting collateral, and you set yourself up for an escalation that you may be unable to match.

All excellent points, Mr. Aleksanders.

We should probably dial it back a bit, make a few apologies/bribes to make sure any hard feelings get swept under the rug posthaste. Most of our contracts aren't High-Threat Response, so we don't actually get to do this kind of thing that often in the first place. As a result, the HTR crews have a tendency to 'cut loose' when the chance rolls around. Needless to say, that's not optimal. But, it flexes the company's muscles and lets us show off a little. I always figured 'This is what we'll do to save your ass' makes for a decent sales pitch, but I guess not.

Fun while it lasted, though.

You ain't been on Omega for a while, have you, old man? Kima's 'disputed territory' these days - whoever was in there before cleared right on out after the Cerbie attack, so the small-timers are always fighting for it. And there's really not much there, so none of the Three are too interested. Maybe they would be if whoever's in charge now started trying to expand into their turf, but controlling one district doesn't make you a big-shot 'round here. I know you gotta toe the party line and all, but the Big Three hardly control all of Omega.

Presslink News Aggregator wrote: Fuckers with gunships that do medevac-for-hire, complete with heavy weapon coverage if you get fucked up in a street fight.
No. No no no no no. You don't send in fucking gunships and heavy weapons for med-evacs! Fuck, you shouldn't be taking sides in a gang conflict anyway! Decent shields and attention to cover is usually enough to get in and out, and, worst comes to worst, you just have to wait for the fighting to die down before saving the ones you can. You don't bring in gunships - do you have any idea how much collateral dam--

Presslink News Aggregator wrote:They see the whole shootout and decide to just fucking wipe the whole place clean, leveling two apartment buildings
NO.

Ahem. I'd like to say that neither I nor the OHO endorses such acts. We want to save as many lives as we can, nothing more. You'll note that does not include destroying a good part of Kima District because we wanted to fulfil a contract in the most brutal way possible.

TheDoctorIsIn wrote:What? They were pretty much cleaned out anyways. Gang fight starts up, standard procedure for most Omegans living in the 'slums' is to book it.

Besides, they were in the way.
You callous son of a bitch. I don't know how you dare to call yourself a doctor - doctors save lives, they don't fucking end them. Yeah, it's all very easy to say they were 'pretty much' cleared out, and that 'standard procedure' is for people to run, but what about the people who can't run? What about the people trapped in their apartment by the FUCKING GANG FIGHT YOU DEEMED SEVERE ENOUGH TO LEVEL THREE BUILDINGS FOR raging outside?! And even the gang members - I may hate what they do, but they were still fucking people, people who paid you for protection, no less! What gives you the right to just mow them down?! Because it was 'in their contract'?!

I swear to God, if I wasn't a much better medic than you'll ever be with that mercenary attitude of yours... Well, let's just say you'd be wishing you'd never killed all those people, you disgusting example of a sapient being.

Hurt on Omega? Not gonna stab us before, during or after your treatment? Head to the [Shepard Memorial Hospital] - the one on Lathos Arcology, before any of you get smart.

Thank you for backing me up on that point.

No. No no no no no. You don't send in fucking gunships and heavy weapons for med-evacs! Fuck, you shouldn't be taking sides in a gang conflict anyway!

We didn't. We fulfilled the terms of our contract with the guys who hired us. There just happened to be two on opposite sides of the fight. So we did both contracts to the letter. End of story.

Decent shields and attention to cover is usually enough to get in and out, and, worst comes to worst, you just have to wait for the fighting to die down before saving the ones you can. You don't bring in gunships - do you have any idea how much collateral dam--

Yes, and waiting for the fighting to die down is fucking retarded when your patients are wounded, dying, bleeding out, and possibly about to be finished off. If we need to clear an LZ ourselves to get at our customers and patients, we will do that.

NO.

YES.

Ahem. I'd like to say that neither I nor the OHO endorses such acts. We want to save as many lives as we can, nothing more. You'll note that does not include destroying a good part of Kima District because we wanted to fulfil a contract in the most brutal way possible.

Not that the OHO’s endorsement matters, since FEMES is not part of the OHO anyways.

You callous son of a bitch. I don't know how you dare to call yourself a doctor - doctors save lives, they don't fucking end them.

What fucking fantasy land do you live in where you can’t do one for the sake of expediting the other?

Yeah, it's all very easy to say they were 'pretty much' cleared out, and that 'standard procedure' is for people to run, but what about the people who can't run? What about the people trapped in their apartment by the FUCKING GANG FIGHT YOU DEEMED SEVERE ENOUGH TO LEVEL THREE BUILDINGS FOR raging outside?!

Sucks to be them? They were irrelevant? Probably should’ve stayed out of the house for another hour or two?

And even the gang members - I may hate what they do, but they were still fucking people, people who paid you for protection, no less!

Actually, they didn’t pay us for shit, let alone protection. Their bosses paid us for medical extraction, and they were a hindrance to the fulfillment of the agreement we’d made with their bosses.

What gives you the right to just mow them down?!

They were in the way? I’m not sure what you’re not getting about that point. They were between us and the patient, and either a non-factor or an outright hindrance to the fulfillment of our agreement with the people who hired us. In short, we killed them because it was the optimal decision.

I swear to God, if I wasn't a much better medic than you'll ever be with that mercenary attitude of yours... Well, let's just say you'd be wishing you'd never killed all those people, you disgusting example of a sapient being.

Right. Totally. That’s why most OHO member-outfits are struggling to stay afloat while FEMES isn’t doing too bad all on its lonesome. It’s because you’re a better medic than I’ll ever be. Get the fuck off your Spiritsdamned ‘I Am Holier-Than-Thou’ high-chair.

It's not even that. Sure, it worked in the short term, but you really think that they'd be able to get away with that all the time? This is Omega we're talking about. People like to shoot back. And leveling two apartment complexes leaves a lot of homeless people who are going to be pissed off, to put it lightly. It's not like it's a mystery who's responsible. So you're going to end up with a lot of operational interference. And like Proctor said, nobody's going to invest in a company that regularly causes more problems than they start. So now you're looking at funding problems.

Not to mention that it's obviously disgusting and completely against actually being a medical unit.

This is as efficient as dropping your MEF power lines' resistance. Yeah, you'll get that extra performance. For five minutes before the transformer goes and your ship ends up hitting the ground hard.

If you consider the OHO a competitor in any cappacity then you might as well count every half-assed startup with a shuttle, but that's besides the point.
