Maybe people just want to help a culture that's recently suffered a horrific terrorist attack that will shake their national consciousness for years to come. Or maybe anyone who's suffered something so horrible, no matter their race of station or situation, deserves help from whoever can give it.

Ahahahaha oh who am I kidding everybody here's probably just thinking 'serves them coward frogs right for not helping in the war' and jacking it to the disaster stills.

Pretty sure you're hilariously ill-informed.

I'm with Steely here.

Bullshit. Your government kept back military assets and technology that could have been vital to our war efforts, while we were being slaughtered. It's not about straight up fighting, it's about fighting at all. So what if you blew up a few bases? The turians and krogan did that while still fighting. Hell, our guerrillas did that.

I mean, I feel for the people on Sur'kesh and I do care about innocents getting blown to hell, but really man? You expect us to pat you on the back for what the Union did in the war? (Hint, what they did was jack-fucking-shit.)

There is more to war than just brute force, providing logistics such as food and weapons, maintaining an economical base of support, considering the Alliance lost theirs in the early days of the war.

I understand my people perhaps could have done more direct action from the onset, but to imply we were just sitting on our hands during the whole affair is fairly insulting.

You know, we'll just take that Kepral's research money. That's really all we need from you.

You know who was actually infiltrating and planting bombs inside actual Reapers. Turians and krogan, working in unity. The Union sat it out-though I did know some kickass Salarian irregulars. (And I do expect you to fight conventionally-I expect you to fight any way that Shepard tells you to. Also I saw Salarians do it when they had to. And the turians have submarines.)

You could have done more. You should have.

Economics and logistics is all very well but anyone would have done that. Private companies did that. Some fucking Terminus nations buried the hatchet and did that. Your government made a deliberate decision not to send military aid until the last second.

When Earth fell, we lost the vast majority of the human population in one battle. We were fighting extinction and the Union just watched. I'm not going to pat you on the back for what little your government did do. It wasn't enough.

And what would have happened if we just sent all our fleets to Earth from the start and then lose our means of protecting ourselves?

Ask yourself this, would the Alliance have done the same if the Reapers occupied Sur'Kesh first?

If you had been a more active member of the alliance you either a. wouldn't have a government that is almost universally reviled by it's peers after the alliance was victorious or b. we would have lost in which case your fleets would have meant absolutely nothing in the face of the Reaper's undivided attentions.

Ask yourself this, would the Alliance have done the same if the Reapers occupied Sur'Kesh first?
Considering that the SA was a crucial part of multiple joint ventures between governments during the war I would say that this argument is more or less completely devoid of merit. Also it is tired and boring.

Really hypotheticals of this nature lose some of their luster when put up against cold, hard realities like the one which we are currently all dealing with.

This should be cross-posted to the honor thread. An example of what happens when people start to think you're sneaky bastards who will ditch their allies.

I mean, seriously. The Geth and the Quarians managed to throw their whole weight into the war, and the geth had a policy of shooting anyone who approached their borders and quarians never helped anyone except other quarians.

This one can only offer what it hopes is an uplifting message. It acknowledges that it has no means to offer practical aid. In recent months, it has learned how to accept its limitations when confronted with tragedy beyond its control. It sincerely wishes it was not required to apply its lessons so soon.

Don't we all. I don't know anyone in Morale personally, but will try and pass it on to them. Think recent events may have everyone on edge.

... Indeed.

I think you might be confusing us with the asari, there. Unless you're talking about Linron and the First Fleet, and that was solely her decision. The rest of the Union had little say.

Nat wrote:It's not about straight up fighting, it's about fighting at all. So what if you blew up a few bases? The turians and krogan did that while still fighting. Hell, our guerrillas did that.

I really hope you're not suggesting all those salarians [in the war, that is, not the bombings] died for nothing. Turians and krogan (and, to a certain extent, humans) are good at fighting. We're good at intelligence. And espionage. And blowing stuff up.

I'd rather you saved the patting-on-backs for later, and assisted the dying salarians now.

Yes yes what he said^. Fighting =/= contributing.

From what I've been told, Linron holed up in the Basin with the fleets and did nothing, yes. Valern committed the Third after you saved his cloaca, the STG split off from the Union and joined in earlier on in the war, and...

and...

And that's it. Well, this doesn't help my point at all. I'm... going to go home and rethink my case.

The salarians at the bottom are OK guys, their government is shit. That's my stance on it.

Gotta remember: The STG had to go rogue to do anything during the war (which they did). I'm not happy about the frog queens sitting on their asses and saying 'lol fuck da galaxee' but you have to admit that the decision to deploy the salarian fleets didn't lie with the guys who would have gone on the front.

The reason we should care about the Sur'Kesh disaster is because it's the single worst terrorist attack since the end of the war, and it involved Tier 2 WMDs on a Council homeworld. I'm worried about the 'big deal' of a terrorist group having the resources to pull it off and feasibly evade or survive retaliation, but innocents are being killed and we should keep that in mind.

If the Linron administration were to step down, I would give none of the fucks, but dudes going on about their day getting massacred is kind of a no-no with me.

Granted, I'm not even salarian, so I'm not sure if I should be talking...

It's pretty much just Linron and her adulators controlling the whole shrelling Union. If someone were to 'depose' them...

The blame for the lack of war effort is on the top-tier government, as you say, but even so, people are still dying. Innocent people. I can't help but wonder what will come of it, though.

I just see a bunch of people who probably weren't involved in the decision being killed because they had bad leaders.

Besides, doesn't that lead into sort of a vicious circle? "Grr not helping them because such and such" "Grr not helping them because they didn't help me." "Grr they didn't help me along with such and such so I'm not helping them." and so on and so on until only another reaper war gets things back on track.

It just makes more sense to me to try and help who we can for a better galactic community. Someone has to be the bigger person here. My two bits.
