[Thessia] Protests Shut Down Serrican Streets
Ayashi T’Heras, Serrice Weekly

SERRICE-Protests have erupted in the Republic of Serrice in response to the appointment of Matriarch Galalina Niaso to an administrative position within the Republic’s Ministry of Justice. Matriarch Niaso previously served as an admiral with High Command and was commended for her actions during the Battle of London while serving as commander of the 114th Dreadnought Strike Group.

Consisting mainly of politically active Maidens belonging to the Alliance for Change, a reformist group formed after the Reaper War, the protesters blocked off access to several inner city plazas, disrupting businesses and facing off with the ceremonial guard of the Forum for a period of three hours. A spokesperson for the group stated that Matriarch Niaso, as a part of High Command, was at least in part responsible for ‘the systematic failure of the Matriarchy to protect the asari people and to fulfil our responsibilities to the rest of Citadel Space during the Reaper War. Her appointment is a slap to the face to those who died due to that failure.’

The protesters repeatedly refused to speak with Serrice Police Department negotiators but eventually dispersed peacefully after police arrived and an appeal from their leadership to keep the event peaceful.

Founder Sikara Mendaras, who served as a Huntress during the War, stated that protests will continue until ‘necessary reforms take place’ before she interrupted the interview to speak with the SPD negotiator. When visited for elaboration by Serrice Weekly journalists, the Alliance for Change’s website called for the immediate reform of the Republican military and government, a larger defence budget, a full investigation into the Beacon scandal and decried the social and legislative power of the Matriarchy.

Police Department Commissioner Ceria T’Julan condemned the protests as unlawful, “While protest permits were issued for this demonstration, they far exceeded lawful restraints. It was both illegal and irresponsible.”

Matriarch Niaso was unable to be reached for comment.

Bullshit.

I ain't assuming anything.

The logistics of the conflict are a point of hard data, one that can be pretty damn easily dissected, and little access here and there is pretty much all that's needed to find where the little FoF blips were.

Your little specielistic diatribe betrays your own ignorance.

You're absolutely right, a federation of majestically enlightened egalitarian republics shouldn't be unified... but they were. To a one. Unified in sitting on their blue asses. Funny that. Remarkable coincidence.

Except for the huntresses and few others who had enough spine to break ranks.

If you're really gonna spout off that Ilium, the area where actual asari influence resides lay only protected by wet assets, you're a goddamn liar, or ignorant; either way you're sure as hell a battlefield liability.

Sure, your Thessian tourism deals and getting all the HV stars to follow the latest matriarchal philosophical bullshit fad nets you some pretty good creds, but the real money's on and through Ilium and has been for a long long looooooong time.

Secondly, two token cerulean dreadnoughts and a picket fleet comprised mostly of human and turian ships wavin lazy-eights around the Shitadel sure as hell ain't makin' your case either.

Alliance

Don't you worry none, inept and racist commanders went missing in the field all the time. Logistical hazard.

Those girls have a damn good reason to be pissed off, and you're pretty clearly one of those reasons, or you're an ignoramus apologist.

CoronaWe shouldn't have helped anybody else and fuck the traitorous broads who did, that's the real reason we fell. The rest of the galaxy owes us for even deigning to consider sending those token flotillas their way.
Well, this is certainly refreshing if unambiguously hilarious and/or awful.

That implies that the Republic's entire fleets would have been enough to repel the reaper armada from Thessia altogether. I'm sorry if I offend, but it's not even remotely close to realistic. The reaper's invasions of one homeworld after the other was on their schedule, the only say the organics had in that was what to do between those catastrophic assaults.

Actually most of that "through" money is on the way to or from the Republics - take that away and honestly we wouldn't hold a candle to Omega, let alone be in the same pildavi ground for economic power. The Reapers knew it too, which is why they sent only a (relatively speaking) token force here: a regional trading port is worth detaching a few destroyers to harass (which in Reaper terms is all that invasion was) to destabilise its neighbours, but if we'd had the kind of independent weight you're suggesting, had that kind of influence on the galactic economy, they'd have flattened us from pole to pole the moment they came over the relay horizon. The bottom line is, economically at least, the Republics could find another middleman if they needed to.

(We just look rich on a galactic scale, because we're a young world, and you know what new money is like for flaunting it. You want the real goddesses of asari commerce, they're not in flashy penthouse apartments here, they're in well-looked-after heritage houses on Thessia.)

And for the record, as Nassa already said, there were no Republican ships or units stationed here, beyond a handful of individual Huntresses who happened to be on planet for one reason or another when the invasion began, and joined the defence. While it would be nice to think the Republics would have sent a relief force if requested (we're not economically crucial, but our ties are obviously strong nonetheless), I have it on fairly good authority that the NVPA decided not to make such a request, for fear of escalating the conflict. So long as we were 'just surviving', we weren't a priority in whatever mad AI brains they had, and we could go on just surviving until the real threats were taken care of - or from our perspective, they'd leave just a few light units whittling us down, and there might still be some of us left alive when our prayers were answered and the major powers figured out how to defeat the damned things. Bringing in an allied fleet and handing them a real setback might have made them decide to get us out of the way so as to stop being a thorn in their sides. Cruel reasoning, but here we are still.

You wanna believe it's a little hub on the edge of space that dabbles in a little hanky panky, knock yourself out.

I'll believe that it happens to be the focal point for natural permeable medium for illicit trade, all vectored from an asari stronghold in the terminus where tithes flow like candy, and all the goods those tithes produce go straight back to C-Space.

You wanna think it's just happy coincidence the trades routes flow that way, that's your call, I'll go ahead and believe it was designed that way a looooooooooooong looooong time ago, cause that's what logistical output says. Ilium pretty much launders everything both ways, and that's exactly what it was designed for, and I can guarantee you more goes in than ever comes out.

Corona Am I the only one who uses the same handle on here?
You know what? Yes. The galaxy can go fuck itself. It let us down then and it's sure as fuck letting us down now.

I'm sick and tides-damned tired of getting spat at in the streets for being asari, for "sitting out the war" or whatever new excuse jealous little mayflies and conspiracy-theorist rock lizards have for pissing on the dead.

The Republics were the only, the only power to join in the war effort before the squid were at our door. The furheads, the turians, tides, even the rock lizards only sent in the troops once they got hit (and/or after bargaining with a gun held to our heads, krogan).

The frogs? Supported the war effort but didn't send in fleets til the end.

The buckets? Only joined in after they'd got their homeworld back.

The flashlights? Sided with the fucking squid 'til Daddy Dearest showed up.

And yet it's us who get the scorn. Us, when we sent in the fleets even though it weakened our defences and left Thessia open to the squid. So yes, I am fucking serious - the rest of the galaxy should be fucking thanking us and mourning our dead, not wanking off about the downfall of Republican civilisation and pissing on those who fought and died.

Tl;dr? This 'Alliance for Change' and their apologists can piss blood and die.

Let's say you're a Reaper. And let's say that you hear that a planet you haven't attacked yet is home to information from the last time people stood up to fight you. Where would you glass from orbit next?

Hmm.

(Stick to accountancy, kid. Numbers are easier than, y'know, war

Good heavens, you make it sound like the matriarchs could have revealed possession of the beacon during the war and not, oh I don't know, during the couple of thousand years after making it illegal to not share Prothean technology.

On the Move.
