The good news is that my doctors think that with some more surgery I might get more mobility back. Might even get rid of the fucking cane once I heal.

...Is it wrong I'm not looking forward to that? The surgery? Haven't decided on a date or timeframe yet, but I'm sick of hospitals and surgery. And the recovery is always a bitch and Kaseka is...I don't want her to resent me. I already need her help for a lot of shit, if I have the surgery, we'll be back to her helping me with everything and still having the kids to think of.

I took your advice and the legal rep my guy sent me to told me to just worry about the baby and that he's going to help with the separation. Chris and I are on shaky grounds but apparently the legal team has written to my lawyer talking about spousal support?

I'm probably going to sound unforgivably pretentious but it is the little things you know? Devil's in the details and all that.

And speaking as someone who is rather intimately acquainted with all manner of sharp shiny things getting jabbed in decidedly tender areas I think you're perfectly justified, nay sensible for not looking forward to the aforementioned shiny, jabby, etc. etc.

You get the idea.

The important thing to keep in mind during all this is not to let these feelings become so insistent that they actively inhibit your life. As in: you start to feel increasingly guilty around Kaseka because you think she resents you, which in turn manifests as you starting to avoid her and treat her differently because you don't particularly enjoy being around the source of your guilt, which leads her to not particularly enjoy being around you either, which you take as a sign that she does, in fact, hate your officer liveried guts. And on and on until, presumably, Eden Prime is in flames and Hackett has to declare super-martial law or something.

Odds are that yes, the next few months will be rough but you must remember that you'll get better, be able to do more which will help take some of the pressure off everyone in the long run. And by everyone I mean yourself as well.

You're a good person Natalie, Kaseka is too. You care about each other and so I honestly think that things will work out for the better. I really do.



And now if you'll excuse me I'll be gargling vinegar to get try to get the sickly sweet out.

So, you remember that little girl I mentioned on the boards a few months back? The little orphan that wanted me to take her home?

I think I'm getting too soft around kids. I've been letting her send me emails and messages and more drawings, and she hasn't asked again, but...I'm considering it. I'm actually, honestly, seriously considering adopting the kid. And I have no idea why. I'm not in a good place to be doing this, you know? Between my work and my dad and...everything else..a kid would just add to the mess. And she's four, so it's not like I have to worry about changing diapers and being woken up six times a night, but she's biotic, and you know how we were at that age.

Crisse. I see thousands of kids like her in my charity work. Thousands of orphans, of little girls and little boys that want a home and look at me and every other adult in their life with hope that maybe... I've always managed to disconnect myself from it, but this time...it's different. It's...I don't know why I'm doing this to myself. Spirits, I don't even have proper citizenship yet. (yes, I know, it's been over a year, but...urg. Visa still has a bit longer on it before the authorities get pissy)

On to the main event - I honestly don't know. You obviously feel connected to this little'n, you know exactly what she'll be going through - and who knows, having a grandchild might even be just what your dad needs to pull himself together.
On the other hand... you said yourself, you're not exactly in the best position for it. What with your dad and moving about and all. And you'd have to secure or replace everything you own that's breakable. Which can't be cheap.
I suppose it comes down to what's best for you - and for her. Might be that giving her what she wants could go awry in the long term.
