Greetings everyone!
I'm in a bit of a jam, and I'm hoping the notorious CDN out-of-the-box thinking can be of help. Here's the situation. I'm currently on a Slaves4Us construction job, on an undisclosed Terminus colony, on a tropical part of the planet. The locals had a thousands-strong city here, and every year the city would get flooded, so each building is built on hydraulics that can adapt to the tides. That until the reapers came by and blew it all up of course. The inhabitants had evacuated in time, mostly, but had nobody to evacuate them. The following rain season was gruesome for them, and not everyone made it. They can't go through it again, so they pulled enough money to afford us, and even so, barely. I've been rebuilding the hydraulics for weeks, the problem is that this year rain season is a month early! The rain is already barely manageable right now, and in two weeks we won't be able to work anymore, and those people will be out of options. For now the problem is mostly visibility outside. All Slaves4Us personnel is equipped with in suit of Quarian inspired design. Do any one of you know a way to keep working under heavy rain? User proof_of_concept already told me that a kinetic barrier would be expensive and impractical. Budget is also an issue, the Slaves4Us board barely greenlighted this mission, as we're making little benefits, and the locals are tapped out. Any help on that would be appreciated by both me and those thousands of colonists. Slaves4Us is here to help you! Contact us with your need, and we will fulfill them in no time! We have Asari, Turian, Salarians, Batarians, Humans, Elcors, Krogans, Volus, Vorcha and for a special price even rare Raloi stock! |

Yes we tried that at first, turns out they don't resist the wind. And those that do carry the workers away.

Come on guys, we're talking about torrential rains here. I don't see how a rain coat would help over a full envirosuit.

That looks interesting. How would it work? Would it be expensive?

I mean it's a device to redirect the flood? No that's not viable, the first settlement was built on hydraulics because the terrain didn't allow for such an installation.

I think the best bet would be to evacuate until the end of the season, but still have your workers building on days when it's not raining too heavily.

If the concern is assembling the hydraulic systems on time, just hit up suppliers on Korlus. I worked with a salvage company on Choquo, and from what I've seen, they have a surplus of undervalued hydraulic and pneumatic components. Whether you're looking for a directional control valve or a spring return actuator, they probably have it. If you want to give your workers the right gear for torrential rains, then you're probably going to have to shrink your wallet, but not by a large margin. I'm sure you can find a few old Triton ADS's lying around in Korlus too. I wouldn't worry about the cost, they've probably marked down those hulks.

The Korlus that hasn't been reconnected to the Relay system? That Chorus? |

The Korlus that hasn't been reconnected to the Relay system? That Chorus? Just what I remember from my work. There are other worlds to choose from, and suppliers, but I'm willing to bet that some outgoing freighters from Korlus itself made it to other markets. It's still a challenge to forget how convenient things were. Well, the point still stands, a Triton ADS isn't a bad investment depending on how quick the firm wants the job done. I'm sure there are other systems with comparable rates for more recent models though. |

The problem is, they don't have a lot of ships, and no destination, which is why the last evacuation was so catastrophic.Samuel wrote:I'm sure you can find a few old Triton ADS's lying around in Korlus too.
That sounds very interesting! How do those work? RememberTheBlitz wrote:Llevex produces a line of goggles designed to increase visibility in heavy rain. Might be costly to outfit everyone with them, though.

This is why I really miss the old Cloudtower in old NA. Fucking coriolis storms. Tides.
From memory, some open-source fabber freaks had plans up online for Heron platform-drones. Sort of like scaffolding that walked, designed for building on Thessia's coasts. idk if you can find the schematics anywhere (I don't have the link address anymore, it was centuries ago, and idk if the servers will have survived the tides-damned squid), but it sounds pretty perfect for what you're looking for. Also, sucks about the colony gig mate. I've pulled time in coming on thirty different shithole colonies over the years, and it's always balls. Give me a ping when you're off the rain-ball though, I think we can do a bit of business. Major Nassa D'Veyra, Eclipse Commando. Interested in our services? That sounds very interesting! How do those work? Aquatic heavy mechs, designed for the deep sea. If they can withstand the insane pressures found on oceanic worlds, then they'll have no issues handling tropical rain. It's a bit overkill for the task, but it's cheaper than outfitting your employees with the latest in safety gear. Finding a supplier shouldn't be too hard. |
