Biography

Devora Brukhis was born in Acheron, Mars. She is a second-generation native Martian. She is Jewish, of Ashkenazic heritage. Her mother is Sarah Brukhis, mayor of Acheron. Her father, Adam Brukhis, committed suicide when Devora was eight, out of the mistaken belief that Sarah was cheating on him. She later married her chief of staff, Keith Turnow. Devora has never accepted him as her father, although the two are on good terms, and he is a father figure to her.

One of the most significant events in Devora’s life was when she spent a Martian year on Thessia as an exchange student. This gave Devora a new perspective on galactic culture. She also lost her virginity while on Thessia.

After the Battle of the Citadel (not long after her return to Mars) Devora decided to pursue a military career, entering the Alliance Military Academy on Luna in the fall of 2185. She did extremely well, and got a summer internship at Grissom Academy. This internship may have saved her life, as she was still on Grissom when the Reapers invaded.

Shortly after the invasion, Devora was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Alliance, and assigned to the cruiser SSV Jerusalem in the Eighth Fleet. She was present during the Battle of Ontarom, during which Jerusalem's bridge took damage, and some of her senior staff were killed. Devora found herself breveted to 1st Lieutenant, and became the ship's new tactical officer. She served in this role for the duration of the war.

Also around this time, Devora found out that she had become pregnant just before the Reaper invasion. She intended to use an artificial womb, but due to the chaos of war, was never able to do so. After the Battle of Earth and the reestablishment of the Alliance military structure, Devora transferred to Mars, where she helped organize reconstruction efforts. She gave birth to her daughter Naomi in March 2187.

Currently, Devora and Naomi live at Fort Carter, the current Alliance military headquarters on Mars. She is the only surviving member of her family.
