"Good, good." The Chairman of [Redacted] Security Consultants stared at the briefing on his desk for a few seconds before returning his gaze to his chief of intelligence. "What's next?"
"A minor item. Do you remember the batarian you dealt with a few weeks ago on Erszbat?"
"You'll have to be more specific."
"Mekan, previously of Omega."
"Ah, yes. Manning's encrypted StateSec drive operation. What of him?"
"He seems to have been caught up in local politics. Karval County forces have detained him and at one of their POW facilities."
"That sounds most unfortunate for him. Why bring this to my attention?"
"He has the potential to be a useful asset. Orchestrating his escape would benefit our long-term interests in the region."
"I don't care how potentially useful he is, I'm not sending my people that far into the Kite's Nest to extract a batarian from high security prison. The risks are too great. It would be easier to develop new assets."
"I'm not suggesting we use our own people. Mekan has a surprising number of capable friends in the Terminus Systems. With a little maneuvering, we should be able to - "
"Proxies. Complete the objective while minimizing risks to our own personnel. Good plan. Can you do it?"
"I'll need some time to gather more intelligence on the facility and identify potential agents. We'll need to sneak a satellite into Erszbat orbit, too."
"Do it, and assign a case officer to oversee this. We're going to want Mekan out quickly if he's to be of any use to us later on."
"Yes, sir." The intelligence chief flicked his hand, and a new holographic image appeared in front of him. "Now, onto our next order of business. We've located another group of Cerberus remnants in the Salmar system..."
