THESSIA, CDR:
Another 17 successful raids on Element Zero refineries and transports struck Thessia today, as the violent wave of piracy that has persisted since the opening of the Parnitha relay continues to strike fear in the galactic reconstruction effort. This brings up the total number of raids up to 845 this year, a staggering 2000% increase from similar reported incidents two years ago. Some analysts project that the lost eezo could amount for up to 5% of all of Thessian eezo exports. When approached about the increase in piracy, Asari naval custom spokeswoman Yressa Merivi noted that: We're dealing with a multitude of pirate groups, both local and external in origin that are taking advantage of the influx of foreign workers, the tripled eezo refinery and export operations and the navy's current inability to cover all territories. While we are able to intercept the majority of the smaller raids that operate out of civilian transports, we've had reports of military grade vessels striking refineries and transports as well. The Citadel council and the Asari republics have been in talks for weeks to address the crisis faced by the still recovering Asari navy. Whether or not an agreement is being reached is unknown but several high level Alliance, Hierarchy and Salarian diplomats have already issued statements of support to the initiative. The supply of eezo is widely regarded as the biggest bottleneck on galactic recovery operations after the reaper wars. Thessia is is the biggest producer of eezo in the known galaxy, and provides for a significant number of reconstruction projects. |

Personally I have no problem with the Eclipse but the Blue Suns is a different story. Mercenaries have their uses, they're a deniable asset, much less bungled up in red tape than a professional military force, and typically more efficient in neutralizing criminal elements. I'd make the argument that the Eclipse are professionals when it comes to assassinations and anti-piracy campaigns, granted the APLA was more a bunch of political extremists, but the efficiency in which they dispatched them gets my vote of confidence. The Blue Suns always struck me as thugs with a brand name.

Hah. You know anything 'bout asari doctrine, kid? We're the best in the galaxy. Like, without question. But the downside to that is it takes decades, if not centuries, to train a proper huntress (let alone a commando). The war took a lot of lives, and it'll take time for the cadres to replenish. So in the meantime, who better to fill in the gaps than one of the largest PMCs out there? Especially the only one a) based on asari doctrine and b) that's got skill and talent in bucketloads. I mean, they can't expect anyone to respect them if they ask the Hierarchy or another sovereign entity to take over their defences. |

Wryly: I'm sure they'll elicit a greater deal of respect by hiring a mercenary criminal cartel.

It'll sure scare off any fucking pirate scum.
(I mean, even the turians play by the rules. Our rules are a little less, well, restrictive.) |

Great, and here I was hoping for a quiet sector. Now with pirates and gov't intervention, makes me wonder if the salvage is worth the aggravation.
