Karius Prin trounces Alfred Roland, wins ultra-heavy championship belt

In a crushing one-round bout, Karius “Big Elder” Prin brought an end to two undefeated years for former GCS ultra-heavyweight champion Alfred Roland. It was the champion’s twentieth overall defense and his second since the controversial GCS ruling on weight division eligibility. Although Roland pressed his offense early and showed a strong start, he was knocked out by a straight jab to the chest one minute into the first round and deemed unfit to continue.

Roland’s training camp expressed their displeasure in postmatch interviews: “I’m not saying it might be because of the weight class ruling,” said head coach Colin Adamson, “I’m saying it’s definitely because of the weight class ruling. You can’t expect Alfred to fight Karius Prin, that deck is stacked as hell. The doctors are saying he’s got some kind of contusion from that knockout punch. We’ll be petitioning [GCS President] Korlo Mum about this, mark my words.”

Big Elder was less effusive, and characteristically stoic. “Proudly: It’s an honor to be recognized on the greatest galactic stage of them all,” he announced in a press conference. “With cheerful belligerence: I will take on any comers.”

Roland is STILL ALIVE?! After that punch I thought he was in the ICU or worse!

Here's the thing, Spiza. It's one thing to go in and take a shot at something that MIGHT kill you. That is 'ballsy.' A lack of brain cells is trying to take on something that WILL kill you. In other words, if you die? Lack of brain cells. If you don't? It's sheer balls.

It's a pretty easy way to look at things. Simplifies a lot of stupid shit.

I can see how Roland's one of the best. The dude's built like a tank. But that doesn't mean he can fight an actual tank.

I mean, tides, what sort of mods do you need to fistfight a motherfucking elcor?

Well, and no offense to Kyr, I think it is possible for someone who isn't a krogan to take one on in hand-to-hand combat if you don't try to fight him up close. Roland should have tried to stay away from Prin much as possible and kept him at a distance with jabs and strikes, which could have allowed him to win via judges scorecard.

I'm no expert Lynn, but don't they also have to reach advantage with those long limbs? I would think the best bed would be to get behind him or even on top of him, for they don't move around easily.

4Eyes kind of has it, reach advantage means you can't really keep him at range. Usually the way to deal with someone who has more reach is to get close, way inside their reach, as they try to bridge the gap between you. If they can't swing at full force all they can go for is elbows and body shots as you take them down.

The problem is that Big Elder didn't just have a reach advantage, he had height, weight, and strength advantages to go with it. The weight class ruling really screwed Roland on this one - there wasn't really anything he could do, except maybe try to take out one of the back knees, get the elcor's back, and try for a choke (which would have all kinds of possible problems too). Instead he tried what I said up there, to get in close and negate the reach, and then when he got overpowered and nearly double-legged he hopped back and took that jab that dropped him. Hopefully once they've managed to repopulate the league, they'll be able to split the weight classes up again so they're more fair, because no human is going to beat an elcor. It's just not happening.

(Mind you, this is all stuff I gleaned from the commentary and post-match breakdown, obviously. Being able to watch it probably would've helped that analysis a little.)
